Request reason:
I have been unfairly blocked by @Oshwah: for restoring the original version of a template after another user (Blackknight12 (talk · contribs)) changed it without any discussion. @Blackknight12: then submitted a request at the admin claiming I was a vandal persistently vandalising Wikipedia which is categorically false. I restored the original version which is the official version that was agreed upon in an official discussion in late 2017/early 2018. Restoring the official version agreed upon by discussion should not warrant a block. So why have I been blocked? I didn't know following the rules of Wikipedia as an IP user means you get blocked. I am repulsed at the fact that restoring the official version agreed upon through discussion is considered "disruptive editing". What happened to getting reverted once then starting a discussion to get consensus, or does that only apply to IP users? I have contributed a lot to Wikipedia over the past six years as a dynamic IP user so I'm definitely not a vandal or a disruptive editor. 2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 12:00, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Decline reason:
You clearly edit warred on the template mentioned in the block log. This would be the case whether you were an IP user or used an account. If you have been here for six years, you should be aware that being correct(if you are) is not a defense to edit warring. There are methods of dispute resolution open to you if you find discussion unsatisfactory or if you feel others are wronging you. As you don't think you have done anything wrong at all, I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 12:31, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- @331dot: I tried to initiate a discussion by coming forward and stating that we can discuss if they (the other user) did not agree with my edit. (2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 12:47, 1 June 2019 (UTC))
- As I indicated, there are proper processes to use if discussion does not resolve the issue or others do not participate; edit warring is not one of them, because everyone in an edit war thinks they are correct. 331dot (talk) 12:49, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- @331dot: The thing is I stopped the edit warring. After I noticed the template was changed with no discussion, I reverted it back to the original version without my edits that the other user was disputing. The issue here is that another user has completely altered the template and gone against an official discussion that was conducted on the template in late 2017/early 2018. The version I restored before I was blocked was the original version agreed upon in January 2018 but while I see the problem with my edit warring before, I stopped that a few days ago when I restored the original version. It's okay though, I understand the issue here is my edit warring and I respect your decision to decline my request. (2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 12:59, 1 June 2019 (UTC))

- Please understand that I didn't block you in order to give you a hard time, go after you, or because it's something I enjoy. I completely understand your thoughts and your viewpoint regarding the template and why you believe that what you were reverting and restoring was correct. But we can't have users making reverts in a back-and-fourth fashion such as what you've been doing on this template over the last few weeks. Edit warring doesn't take into account any set number of reverts, how often one does so, or the context involved (unless it meets something in the list of exceptions). Edit warring is the act of engaging in back-and-fourth reverting of revisions in lieu of resolving the dispute properly by discussing it on the relevant talk page. Edit warring is disruptive, and you need to understand that when such a dispute arises and when other editors disagree with changes, and a "revert cycle" is starting to go into motion - you need to stop that cycle and discuss the matter. If other editors continue making reverts, there are noticeboards (such as this one) that handle that exact type of problem. I'm sorry to see that you're frustrated or perhaps angry, but an important part of being a positive contributor to Wikipedia is to obey and comply with Wikipedia's policies, and do your best to learn from mistakes and move forward. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:44, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- It's okay @Oshwah:, I fully understand your role on Wikipedia so I understand what you are saying. As someone that has been here on Wikipedia as a dynamic IP user for a while, you have actually helped me solve issues in the past. I just thought I should explain the full situation. I apologise for edit warring, I noticed my request has been declined and that's okay. I'll just make sure this doesn't happen again. - No worries; I'm sorry that we got tangled in this unpleasantness. If you create another unblock request and state that you understand the policy and promise not to continue the edit war and that you'll discuss the matter properly, I'll accept your request and unblock you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:56, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- That's okay @Oshwah:, I have no ill feelings towards you or anybody here in fact I really respect you as an editor along with Iryna Harpy (talk · contribs). Both of you have helped me in different ways and while I haven't come across the both of you in a few years until now in your case, your username and Iryna Harpy's username are the two most memorable usernames for me here on Wikipedia. Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity, I appreciate it very much. I will submit a new request and once I get unblocked I'll start a discussion with Blackknight12. Request reason:
I fully understand the issue here is my edit warring and understand that edit warring is not the way to go when you disagree with somebody's edits. I fully understand Wikipedia's guidelines and I try my best to follow them but sometimes things like this happen and I apologise for behaving like this. I'm ashamed now that I think of it that even though I have been editing Wikipedia for the past six years, I have engaged in edit warring. I will discuss the issue with Blackknight12 as soon as I am unblocked and will make sure I don't engage in edit warring again. 2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 13:14, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Accept reason:
I have to commend you and express my sincere appreciation for your temperament here and for being so understanding. Users I have to block for other problems usually respond by telling me how I'm a low-life asshole, or say that they're going to kill me or even slit my throat while I'm on my way to work (no joke). It's refreshing to see such a positive response to this situation. Your unblock request is accepted and I'll unblock you momentarily. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:17, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Done. You are now free to move about the cabin. ;-) Thanks again for being so understanding. Take this as a positive learning opportunity, keep editing and growing and gaining experience, and stay outta trouble! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:20, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you so much @Oshwah:! I'm also really sorry to hear that there are such people like this on Wikipedia saying such terrible things towards you. It's repulsive and shocking to hear that there are people that post such horrendous things. I'm really sorry to hear that, people who post such things really have no right to be here on Wikipedia. I never understand why people post things like that, they are harsh and terrible words to use. I hope you come across more nicer users on Wikipedia than rude ones. Thanks again Oshwah, I really appreciate it and yes I will stay out of trouble haha. I wish I could remember the IP account I was using when you helped me but it was about four years ago I think, back when I was still in high school. :D (2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 13:29, 1 June 2019 (UTC))
- I appreciate the very kind words. I must've done a good job with helping you, since you still remember me. That, or it's my hair. It's hard to forget when you see such a freak of nature such as what's sitting on top of my head. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:32, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Yes you did a great job helping me and I appreciated it very much. I'll always have respect for you, Iryna Harpy and now that I'm remembering about the past I remember another user called "Sam" (I think he changed his name though) who I also have respect for, the friendless and helpful nature of all three of you made me want to continue editing Wikipedia regularly. Haha yes the hair, I actually like it. It was really nice coming across you again. I really appreciate your efforts in getting me unblocked. Thanks again Oshwah. This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
