File names
Hello, I renamed the file you created File:George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware, Page from an American History Textbook, 1975, Robert Colescott.jpg to File:George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware, Page from an American History Textbook, 1975, Robert Colescott.jpg. I did not directly move the file to the name you requested since the file name was excessively long. Excessively long file names should be avoided (See WP:FNC), and the name you provided had information which is useful in the image description but not the file name itself, namely: Page from an American History Textbook and the date are not required here. For example File:Mona Lisa.jpg doesn't include the date, type of art or any such information in the name. Hope this clarifies the rename choice I made and helps you with uploads in the future. Hi. That is not an excessively long file name - that is the full name of the painting in the image. The image did not come from a textbook, that is the title of the work in question. Additionally, I don't think it's appropriate to remove the date of the work - this is a fair use image, the full author/date details for the underlying painting are extremely important. I would ask that you please rename it to what I requested, and next time please check with the uploader before deciding to do that. The Mona Lisa is not an appropriate counterexample - that is a public domain image that is extremely famous, it is almost universally known where it is located/when it was painted. --19h00s (talk) 13:14, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
I disagree, however I won't argue now since I should have discussed this first before moving and it seems a bit unfair to move the file and then refuse to move it to where you want. Terasail[✉️]00:06, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
