Speedy deletion nomination of North East Roller Derby

A tag has been placed on North East Roller Derby requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Creating Wikipedia Articles

Hello, I will reply to your message on my talk page here, so you have record of it for the future. I did nominate the article for deletion, and I did so under the criteria for speedy deletion (see the link for the details of that criteria if you wish). In a nutshell, if an article does not explain why the subject (in this case the roller derby) is important, it may be deleted quickly (speedy) from Wikipedia, this can range from 30 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the article and the backlog at New Page Patrol (a group of editors that monitor new pages). I don't know off hand how long after it was created that I nominated it, but I think it was a few hours. The article in question did not explain why there was anything significant about this rollerderby. On Wikipedia we have a requirement for articles, they are called the general notability guidelines, and they state that a subject is considered to meet the inclusion criteria for Wikipedia if it has been subject to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject (i.e. not the rollerderby website). The readers digest version of the general notability guidelines is located at WP:42, which is short, and sweet, and a good quick read for new editors. So, has the roller derby been covered by a reliable source (a newspaper is a good example), if so, great, if you provide me a link (preferably more than one), I will personally request its undeletion, and help you improve it. If it has not received significant coverage by realiable sources that are independent, and you did recreate the article and explained why it was important (but not backed up by an independent reliable source), than the article would still be deleted, except by another method.

Having said all that, I realize that being told that your first article is going to be deleted is not very welcoming, however if you look at it from Wikipedia's point of view, we have hundreds of articles created every day, and we have a means to quickly remove those that will likely not conform to our guidelines (the speedy deletion process), which saves a lot of bureaucratic work that would have to be done by the people who volunteer to edit and maintain Wikipedia, which gives them time to improve the encyclopedia as a whole. There are some other means at your disposal to work on this without having to worry about its deletion, they are:

1. Use the articles for creation process, which creates the article outside the main article space where you can have it reviewed by other editors before being moved.
2. Creating an article in a user "sandbox", such as User:1984Tpearson/Sandbox, where you are free to work on it at your leisure, and when you think it is ready, you can ask me to review it and I will have look at it.

If you want to go with either of these processes, let me know and I will request undeletion and have it placed in the appropriate place, and provide you with a link to where it is.
