I have just removed a picture that you added to that page a couple of years ago. There were two reasons why I deleted it.

  • Firstly, you had placed the picture in the introduction, but the picture was not about the bombing of Lubeck. It is a picture of a statue.
  • Secondly, although the statue might be relevant in some way to the subject of the bombing, your caption didn't give any indication whatsoever of why the statue is, in fact, relevant! It is just a picture of a statue with the name of the artist and the name of the statue!

I don't come from Lubeck. I cannot be expected to guess why the statue is relevant.

In writing an encyclopedia, we (Wiki editors) need to remember, for every article, that the person reading it probably knows nothing about the subject. So the statue needs to be mentioned in the article, or else it needs to have a caption that describes the relevance. The picture has been placed on the talk page of the article, so you don't have to search, when you fix it. Amandajm (talk) 12:35, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do not speak German.
I did not know that the statue is a memorial.
The caption does not inform the reader that the statue is a memorial.
The text does not inform the reader that the statue is a memorial.
The statue should not be first in the article, because the article is not about the statue. The statue should be placed at the end, in "aftermath" or some other section.
  • Google translate

Amandajm (talk) 06:50, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree. If the statue is a memorial, it should go into the article.
But, what is the right caption?
Amandajm (talk) 07:44, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I have returned the picture to the article, already now.
I will add some information.
Amandajm (talk) 09:01, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have written a paragraph about the memorial statue, in the article, and I have used the reference which you gave me. Amandajm (talk) 12:57, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message.

The photos that I have uploaded are from the private collection of the Wartenbeg Trust. I received permission to access their collection and use for Wikipedia articles. However, the firm stipulated that the photos can't be adjusted or manipulated. They have to be left in their original state, the way the photographer intended. Thus manipulation of the photos is NOT permitted!! Also, the photo is not dirty, as you state! It is a 100 years old photo!!!!! It is beautiful and it well illustrates the subject. The photographer intended for it to be presented this way and you changing it, and making it "artificial" is wrong! Would you ever make changes to Mona Lisa? Personally, I love the photo and your changes completely destroy the image!

Best regards, Mariaflores1955 (talk) 10:33, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the message and the very interesting information on the creator of the photograph... History is absolutely fascinating. I believe that Kurt v. M. is buried at Ehrenfriedhof in Lübeck...Best regards from London! Mariaflores1955 (talk) 09:10, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Ukraine during World War I may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Willy Rohr, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page GHQ (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Verdun

[edit]

Greetings, did you add the information from Königlich preußisches Sturm-Bataillon Nr 5 (Rohr) : nach der Erinnerung aufgezeichnet unter Zuhilfenahme des Tagebuches von Oberstleutnant a. D. Rohr ? If so do you have a page reference I can add please. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 09:56, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no. But the Chapter is called: Der Angriff auf Verdun (The attack on Verdun). Does it help? 1970gemini 12:49, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It might narrow it a bit, I've asked on AHF so fingers crossed. ThanksKeith-264 (talk) 11:22, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Malmaison

[edit]

Thanks for the better map but someone from Wiki Commons said that jpg is for photos, not maps and diagrams, which should be png. I've been labouriously converting all mine for ages now. ;O)Keith-264 (talk) 12:45, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I see. If you have any more maps to illustrate things like Malmaison I'd be delighted to see them. Hope you liked the article too.Keith-264 (talk) 20:05, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Willy Rohr

[edit]

Hello- It would help if you could explain briefly in the caption of the image you added to Willy Rohr what that Sturm-Bataillon patch(?) is. And a bit more elaboration in your edit summaries would be appreciated as well. "Petitesse", even to those who know French, doesn't provide any useful info. Eric talk 14:27, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thats qiet simple. It has been the sign which explains itself of his bataillon. Take a look this article. You see ST (Sturm) B (Bataillon) 5 (independent unit in the 5th prussian Army) Rohr (she has been named by Wilhelm II. with the name of his commander in 1WW). Without this unit there wouldnt exist any Stormtroopers in George Lucas Star-Wars. 1970gemini 16:18, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fascinating. However, your observations here do not address the issue of informing readers of the article what the image is. We don't just throw pictures into articles with no context or explanation. Eric talk 00:35, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
