Notability of John C. Corlette

[edit]

A tag has been placed on John C. Corlette requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mhking (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John C. Corlette

[edit]

Hi, in relation to the above message, I redirected the Corlette article to the Aiglon College article; if you can provide sources that would establish his notabilty outside of founding the college, of course, that can be undone. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 20:34, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi again. Just a few ideas on the Corlette article. To create an article on Wikipedia, especially articles on people, you will need to provide reliable sources to establish the notabilty of a subject. Now, there is certainly a possibilty you might be able to do that with John Corlette; my suggestion is that you take the time to write the article. You can use "sandbox", a page in your user space to develop the article. What I would say is that it would be better not to approach the article as a memorial; that is not the function of a Wikipedia article. It would be better if you could establish the notabilty and importance of the subject as an educationalist if possible. At the moment, I think leaving the article as aredirect to Aiglon College would be the best option until you can draft an article. You can read the welcome message above for more information. It would probably be easier to reply to your message on the talk page of John C. Corlette here. Granted that there was a rush to judgement on the merits of the article, but unfortunately the version of the article that was judged, for lack of a better word (this version) didn't establish either the notability or the importance, again for lack of a better word, of the subject. Just for the record, I was the person who redirected the article. I appreciate the fact that creating an article in stages can lead to problems like this, which shouldn't happen. You can still create the article by editing the John C. Corlette page. To avoid an automatic redirection to the school article, use this link this link and you can recreate the article by editing that page. However, might I suggest that you keep to a {{WP:NPOV|neutral point of view]] in the article; rather than starting with a eulogy, it would be better to start with a barebones account of the subject's life.
