[edit]Hello, I'm AntiCompositeNumber. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Saybrook College— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Listing Old Wykehamists
[edit]Hi, and thanks for your efforts on this list. However I'm not sure you've fully taken on board the list entry criteria.
Firstly, it's bluelinks only, i.e. every entry has a wikilink to an existing Wikipedia article.
Secondly, the person's article must be reliably cited to multiple independent sources (WP:GNG) - it is not enough to provide a CV from the person's own workplace or website - to demonstrate notability (WP:N).
Thirdly, the entry must be cited to prove they really were at Winchester (you've done this; I'll format the citations).
Fourthly, the top of the list explains that the people listed are "distinguished", i.e. they reached the tops of their careers - so, to illustrate the principle, a soldier didn't just become a senior officer in a catering depot for umpteen years, they did something significant. Whether there are certain positions that automatically carry the label "distinguished" is a tough question: one might say that Prime Minister is just that, but Liz Truss reached that position and ended up dramatically and definitively undistinguished. So on the whole I'd say it's case-by-case rather than assuming that high rank equals case proven.

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
