You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create an account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages
- Edit semi-protected pages
- Upload images
- Have your own watchlist, which shows when articles you are interested in have changed
If you edit without an account, your IP address (108.91.78.61) is used to identify you instead.
We hope that you choose to become a Wikipedian and create an account. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
before the question on this page. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. By the way, please make sure to sign and date your talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~).

Request reason:
I am editing from IP address 108.91.78.61. I made an edit a few weeks ago. I went to edit today and was refused, with a message that started: "Editing from 23.83.0.0/18 has been blocked (disabled) by NinjaRobotPirate for the following reason(s): The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be a web host provider." I'm not sure how 23.83.0.0/18 is related to this IP address. I'm editing straight from my DSL provider. It seems like some wires may have been crossed. Can this be fixed? 108.91.78.61 (talk) 15:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Decline reason:
This IP is not blocked. For all I can tell, it belongs to AT&T. The IP range 23.83.0.0/18 indeed is blocked; it belongs to Nobis Technology Group. That block should not affect you when editing from this IP address. Are you maybe using some sort of VPN or hosting service? Huon (talk) 15:42, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:
Thanks for your quick reply. No, I'm not using a VPN or web hosting service. I'm editing straight from my IP provider. I don't use any products or services from Nobis Technology Group. I edited successfully a couple of weeks ago using the same setup. The block on the IP range was apparently placed back in May, so I don't understand why I could edit before but not now. I just rebooted the router and the computer, but still the same message. Is there perhaps someone with advanced privileges who can untangle this issue? 108.91.78.61 (talk) 16:46, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Decline reason:
23.83.0.0/18 is indeed a norbis / leaseweb owned colocation webhost. This block is almost certainly a result of attempting to edit via a proxy / vpn / other anonymizing service. Phab ticket T207609 is relevant to this request. The effects of this block should go away within about 24 hours so long as further edits aren't attempted via the anonymizing service. Could I edit if I create an account? 108.91.78.61 (talk) 17:40, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Specifically - the block message says: If you have never edited Wikipedia before and/or do not have an account, consider requesting one at https://accounts.wmflabs.org/, which allows you to edit despite the block on your IP address. Is that the solution? 108.91.78.61 (talk) 17:45, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Requesting an account should indeed work. Once you have one, you may want to log out, take a screenshot of the block message that you see when you try to edit from this IP, and report this issue as a bug via Phabricator (see also WP:Bug reports and feature requests; you need an account to report a bug). Huon (talk) 19:19, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. I've submitted a request, and taken a screen shot of the block message in case that helps. I don't understand the nature of this "bug". Let's see how it goes. If I can edit I'll see about reporting something at Phabricator. 108.91.78.61 (talk) 20:00, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
