[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.
If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. - If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
In addition, please realize that citations don’t need to be put after every statement or fact, sometimes one citation covers multiple statements. And sometimes on road articles this stuff can just be seen on Google Maps, which cannot be cited. Smith0124 (talk) 18:09, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Reference Tagging
[edit]Normally rather than tag bombing something that needs a lot of citations, we just add a template at the top saying it needs more citations. You should follow the instructions at WP:CITENEED to add either the {{Unreferenced}}, {{Refimprove}}, or {{Unreferenced section}} tags to the top of the article/section, as appropriate rather than tagging six different things in one article and making a mess. Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. Generally in the situations in question, you'd be adding the refimprove since the articles have references, just not enough. Smartyllama (talk) 18:08, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- You added it correctly for the most part, but it generally should be at the top of the article, not in the middle of it. If it's just one section that has the issue and the rest of the article is properly referenced, you can use the unreferenced section template instead, and add it at the beginning of the section. Smartyllama (talk) 18:16, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- You are correct, the section template is only when the section is completely unreferenced. You used the right template here, you just put it in the wrong place. Unfortunately, there is no template for when a specific section needs more references but the rest of the article is fine. Smartyllama (talk) 18:20, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
