What's your dangerous idea?
[edit]This draft of the ideas section is looking pretty good, actually. The only thing I can visualize as missing is some expansion of each person's arguments, followed by block quotes to cite presicely what the writer says, and one more section about our environment (where panpsychism should be included). I will gladly expand once I find by copy of the book; I've misplaced it quite recently. Thanks, --Slartibartfast1992 02:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, sounds like a plan. Hope you find your book :) Cheers, Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 02:25, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going to also source the quotes when this draft is finished, so including page numbers after the quotes would help with that. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 03:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Notes on changes
[edit]Having to do with human values are ideas dealing with dangerous ideas themselves, as the code of ethics at a certain moment in history is what determines whether an idea will have a huge impact or not.
This sound a bit OR-ish and it's also awkwardly-phrased, so I pulled it out. Just a note.
I also changed references to the universe; instead of saying 'we are there' I put 'we are here'. Because we are here, ya know? :)
The tough part will to remain NPOV about the whole thing. —Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 03:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- You are definitely correct in suspecting original research. Now that you mention it, I do feel insecure about it so... yeah, let{s just leave it out. I'll keep working on it tomorrow, methinks. I'm done for the day. --Slartibartfast1992 03:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Alrighty. I'll see what more I can do later. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 05:42, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Final details
[edit]The draft is looking pretty good. The only thing that even slightly concerned me is having the anthropic principle in physics, but I now understand that it is in the context of Leonard Susskind's "landscape". Maybe we should explain what he expresses in the landscape. I'll do this now, feel free to remove it or rephrase it as necessary. --Slartibartfast1992 17:09, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, also about that final note at the end, it seems sort of awkward in the bottom of the article, just like that. I believe a footnote, linked to at the header of the ideas section, would be most appropriate for dealing with this. Any opinions? --Slartibartfast1992 17:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea, I would've never thought of that. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 19:56, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, here's a good article with NPOV: The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex; Master of Puppets pointed it out to me. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 19:56, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
The anthropic principle enters the idea when he claims that we are only here because our universe has the precise set of laws of physics that it has, and that very few universes have the laws of physics needed for intelligent life.
I was going to break up this sentence or reduce it in size, but I don't know where to break it. It's kinda run-on-ish, in my opinion. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 20:00, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- 'K, that's better, thanks :) Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 21:14, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
I think it's just about ready for the article. I'll wait for your approval to do this, though. But if you do agree, next step would be to get the article rated, get some feedback. What's tough about this is it's been on the list in philosophy for half a year and nobody's rated it. As for a rating in the books wikiproject, I didn't even find a list to put it on lol. --Slartibartfast1992 03:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, great, I agree. I'm going to go ahead and put it in the article. I don't see a Wikiproject Books listing in Category:WikiProject assessments so I might go looking through pcroject pages. --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 04:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- It nearly doubled the size of the article, lol. I'm going to reference now. --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 04:37, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- References done! Yay! Party! Now to work on all the other books in the series... --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 04:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
