Pinyin edit

[edit]

I noticed your edit to Pinyin and was trying to understand it. I noticed one possible typo:

"... the lips are not rounded except it before a rounded vowel."

Did you mean 'if'?

I do not know IPA, but it looks like you are using a very specialized set of symbols that would be completely unrecognisable to a common person. Changing 'əɻ' to 'ɚ' or 'ɐɚ' is an example. I have absolutely no idea what those symbols mean. Is it useful to make the pronunciations unusable? Shenme (talk) 04:45, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Him changing 'əɻ' to 'ɚ' is actually correct, because the reputable authors like Lee and Zee and Duanmu transcribe it this way. However, the rest of his symbols are indeed very specialized and should not be used on Wikipedia unless consensus is reached. See my next section on this talk page.--Officer781 (talk) 00:52, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

edits for transcribing Standard Chinese

[edit]

Can you please go to Talk: Standard Chinese phonology to discuss your recent edits that fundamentally change how Mandarin is transcribed at Wikipedia? Do not edit further yet unless we come to a consensus. This system has already been agreed upon and standardized and the point here is to create a simple system to not complicate transcriptions for readers.--Officer781 (talk) 00:49, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
