Rabbi Yaakov Rokach
[edit]Your new article about Yaakov Rokach was clearly translated by machine from a foreign language (my guess would be Hebrew). As explained at How to translate, such machine translations are worse than no article at all, because the resultant English is largely unintelligible gibberish. If you are unable to provide a clearer translation, the article is likely to be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:25, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- In addition to the translation issues (which I see you have been trying to address, but which are still so problematic as to render the majority of the article as meaningless gibberish), there is an issue of notability of this person. I can find no sources (other than a brief mention in a catalog of Judaica for auction at Kestenbaum.net) that mention Rokach at all. Of course, I don't speak Hebrew, so there may be sources available in that language that I am unaware of, but if you can't produce any reliable sources, the article will likely be deleted. There is a value on the rabbi in the Hebrew Wikipedia. you can't say he doesn't important.העורך היהודי (talk) 19:57, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps if you could give me the address of his page on the Hebrew Wikipedia, I could look at the sources listed there. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:21, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

- Thank you. I see that the Hebrew article has no valid sourcing either. Since each Wikipedia maintains its own criteria for inclusion, perhaps the Hebrew Wikipedia community is OK with this. The English Wikpedia community is not. Without indications of significant coverage of this individual in independent media (books or articles written about him, not by him), then this article will likely be deleted. I understand that there are many significant rabbis among various groups of Jews, and that much of the significance of these individuals arises from oral traditions passed down through the generations, but Wikipedia can't rely on such oral traditions, and requires published evidence of notability. Dear העורך היהודי: Please do not create articles and categories that reveal a very, very poor command of the written English language. You may be 100% right about the subjects you contribute to, but if you can't express yourself well in English on the English language WP then you come across as very "wrong" unfortunately. This only leads to problems that as you can see your work is being nominated for deletion and then other editors have to run to fix up the mess you create and that is unfair (and verges on violating WP:CIVIL) to expect your work to be "saved" by others that way. Please try to find any editor/s willing to WP:MENTOR you so that the kind of problems we have had will be avoided. Start looking for any mentor/s at either WP:JUDAISM or WP:ISRAEL who would be willing to help you. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 09:02, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Title page scans
[edit]Hi, the scans of title pages of Hebrew books should not be licensed as your own work under Creative Commons. The correct license is {{PD-old-100-1923}}. Yoninah (talk) 01:35, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) When you uploaded File:ספר שערי תפילה.jpg, you applied a tag that implied that you owned the copyright to the image and were releasing it to the public under the terms of the CC-by-SA license that governs most of Wikipedia's content. The fact is that you do not own the copyright, so you had no right to apply that tag. Instead, you should have applied a tag that properly indicates that the image in question is in the public domain because it was first published so long ago that its copyrights have expired. Hi, what are you doing adding this category? How many more people are going to be added to it? It seems to me that Category:Libyan rabbis is enough, and can be populated with more rabbis than just the Rakkahs. Unless you give me a good reason not to, I'm going to nominate this new category for deletion. Yoninah (talk) 21:24, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

- Yes, I see what they're doing at the Hebrew wiki. We do those charts for Hasidic dynasties, not for families. I've already removed the Adadis from your "family tree". Since I can't foresee adding any more Rakkah biographies (and please don't machine-translate them yourself from the Hebrew wiki, since they usually don't have the reliable sourcing demanded by the English wiki), I suggest you forget about this new category. Yoninah (talk) 21:31, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Why rabbi Tsion Haim rakkah, why you removed the Adadis from the family tree Rabbi Natan Adadi is son in law of Rabbi Massud Rakkah העורך היהודי (talk) 21:36, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Nathan Adadi is the son-in-law, not the son. Zion Rakkah may be Jacob Rakkah's brother, but we are not going to do an article on him because he is not notable. What you are proposing is simply not done on Judaism articles on the English Wikipedia. Yoninah (talk) 21:39, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

- I meant to do category with name of the two families Adadi and Rakkah. Do you speak Hebrew I prefer to speak Hebrew. העורך היהודי (talk) 22:15, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- No, sorry, I don't understand Hebrew well enough to have a conversation.
- Listen, we have Category:Libyan rabbis. That is a broad category that can hold a lot of articles about people besides the Rakkahs and Adadis, so it is a good category. If you break out the 2 Adadi articles and the 2 Rakkah articles into a sub-category called Category:Rakkah-Adadi family, then you've just erased the larger category of Category:Libyan rabbis! Moreover, this is the first time that articles are even being written about Libyan rabbis. I think it's important to develop Category:Libyan rabbis and forget about the Rakkahs and Adadis for now. Let's stop this conversation now and go to AFD. I'll notify you on your talk page and you can comment on the deletion discussion. Yoninah (talk) 22:19, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
