Posting in English

[edit]

This is the English wiki, so please post in English so others can read what you write, not as you did here. This is not the Russian wiki. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 16:36, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Я бы с удовольствием писал, но если и напишу вы точно ничего не поймёте. en-1!--Фрашкард (talk) 16:41, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It seems you don't respect the language of this wiki. I will not and cannot respond to your foreign language posts and if you add such posts to talk pages that I watch I will remove then classifying them as vandalism. ww2censor (talk) 22:05, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't write in English, but I understand your messege.--Фрашкард (talk) 19:30, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you are not able to post in English, please do not post, unless you get a friend who knows how to write English to post for you, or give you the English to post. This is because there are few people around here who can understand what you write when you write in Russian. This is not like posting on the Slovak or Polish wiki where Russian is a common second language for them, so posting here is Russian is pretty useless and will just annoy other editors who can't read your posts. Hope you understand. Sorry, but this IS the English language wiki. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 19:58, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Philately template

[edit]

We have been trying to keep the philatelic country article template as free of redlinks as possible. Do you intend to write the Azerbaijan stamp article soon? If not I will remove you edit. Please reply in English or not at all. ww2censor (talk) 22:05, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Фрашкард. Thank you for your interest in the philately project. We would be happy to have your help. This is the English language Wiki and few people here understand Russian, unfortunately. I know that you have only en:1 level and this makes it difficult for you. Perhaps you can ask one of your friends (like Farhad?) to translate your comments so we know what your concerns are. No foreign language articles are permitted on the English Wikipedia, so if you do write the Azerbaijan stamp article, it will have to be in English, too. Regards Scbarry (talk) 04:25, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
...эх, сейчас попробую=)... I can't write the Azerbaijan stamp article in english. May be anyone can translate from russian (ru:Почтовые марки и история почты Азербайджана) into english. And, if you "have been trying to keep the philatelic country article template as free of redlinks as possible", why the template have Congo, Ceylon, Czechoslovakia... and have't Azerbaijan?--Фрашкард (talk) 19:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your difficulty. I am able to read some other language Wikis, but I can not write an article for them. On a different page, Tirkfl explained that a stamp article about Azerbaijan was deleted about a year ago. I do not know what happened there exactly. Do you know that there is a Wiki site where people can request translations Wikipedia articles from other languages into English? If the article ru:Почтовые марки и история почты Азербайджана is exactly what the English Wiki article is supposed to contain, perhaps you could ask there for someone to translate it. There is a small form to fill out there. I can even do that for you, if you tell me the article is exactly what is needed here. I can not promise that anyone will translate it, but we can ask. Thank you again for your willingness to help. Scbarry (talk) 20:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict but additioanl to Scbarry) The template was pruned severely because it was full of redlinks back earlier this year. Have a look at this state of the template. Maybe you would prefer this type of template when there were so many redlinks to drive us all crazy as most of those redlinks would take a long time to write. SO a few were left in in the hope that some editors would write the articles, but we could remove them all and only have links to existing articles. Azerbaijan is not exactly one of the most popular countries in the world to collect, so I suggest you get one of your bilingual friends to translate the Russian article and we can proofread it here for you to make any corrections to the English. If you do that you should post the page to a sandbox page of your own before posting it to the mainspace. ww2censor (talk) 20:42, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. I have requested the translation on the Translation page I mentioned above. I looked at a machine translation of the Russian page. Although the machine translation is not good enough to include in Wikipedia, the article does look interest. Scbarry (talk)
Thank you very mach for care.--Фрашкард (talk) 19:43, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Привет Фрашкард (Hello Frashkard) - You are welcome. :-) As I said, I do not know if anyone will translate the article. We are all volunteers here. If you can find someone who will translate it for you, that would be the most certain way to get it done. Any problems with the writing style can be improved later by a native English speaker, as long as the information is there and is understandable. Good luck! Scbarry (talk) 22:25, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I too would suggest you try to find someone you know to do a translation because some translation requests never happen and even when they do, it can be a long time before anything happens as I know from asking for some German language request I have made. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 02:20, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
