Fundraising Translators

[edit]

Hi, my name is Deniz and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be your liaison between the Russian community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort, we recognize that banner messages that perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences. I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project, translating messages into Russian and suggesting messages that would appeal to Russian readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping with this project, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. --Dgultekin (talk) 19:44, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm moving our chat over to your talk page for ease. Thanks for volunteering to help, we really need banners translated into Russian and Ukrainian and banners proposed by Russian/Ukrainian users. Would you be able to take a stab at translating some of them or writing your own here? Or could you help recruit more Russian and Ukrainian Wikimedians and ask them to get involved on Meta with the fundraiser, we want to make this year a huge success in Russia and the Ukraine. See you on the Wiki! --Dgultekin (talk) 17:22, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly speaking, I don't believe that banners can increase the amount of donations. This is due to the fact that Russian and Ukrainian people and people from other former Soviet countries, are not accustomed to pay, they accustomed to getting everything for free. For example all of my neighbours have cracked (pirate) Windows, you know. In few days I'll start discussion on this topic in the Russian wikicommunity. We need something special "to make this year a huge success in Russia and the Ukraine", a special approach to explain the Russian people, why they have to pay. I apologize for taking so long time for my answers, but I'm now on sick leave after surgery and the unemployed, trying to find at least something of my specialty. I'm sorry for the delay in response, I lost track of this page. I do think a special banner or letter explaining to Russian users why they should donate is a good idea, you should propose this to some of the other Russian community members and see if you can come up with a banner for us to test. --Deniz (WMF) (talk) 23:22, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited FatRat, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page BitTorrent (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I noticed you have experience in JavaScript. I'm hoping you can help me with a problem I've run into writing a userscript.
