Ogden City Mall

Noting as you did that the Ogden City Mall was recently demolished, would you be willing to write an article (or at least a brief stub) about said mall? I personally feel that we don't have enough about historic (read: defunct) shopping venues such as malls and shopping centers on Wikipedia, and this would be a great contribution. Re:-TV/DT

My thoughts on the subject. What this usere, User:Zpb52 is refering to is the on-air id that stations used. It not uncommon for stations that have digital broadcast to use a -DT or a /DT on their identifier. I dont know what the fcc reg is for on air id's and digital brodcast, i ought to look it up, the lic for the stations involved never changed to reflect a -DT or /DT addation, the impression that i have recived from the fcc is that for the most part the current calls are to be grandfatered to the digital. Even digital only stations are not required to have -DT suffix, their is at least one that i know of WNVT that is digital only that has no suffix. I have no problem with going with the current thinking on the article names. (09:18, 2 February 2006 Boothy443)

TV Project

Their are some major problems with the project. First off we have a user RacoonFox, who ingnors the naming convention (whih is not correct in its own right, not all full power stations in canada have a -TV suffix), standardising everything to -TV, and is constantly screwing up with market templates in imposing his onw standard, with the see also stuff which is inccorect and subjectiv, after a standard was somewhat agreed to, but that discussion was preety much all of a failure for the lack of participation. Thie need to be concreat standards for naming convention, and market templates, that apply to all of the station that we are covering, US, Can , MEX. As well i am looking to do major changes to the categories. I dont mind doing this, but if this is gonna be a one person venture with another person just doing what they want, and then having others follow in behind him, then i wonlt even try, and i'll let the carnage thats benn happing happen. I understand your frustration. I have personaly renamed a TON of TV station articles that were incorrectly renamed by another user a few months ago. I do think it would benifit the project to have an administrator helping out to more quickly help out with situations such as this. TV Naming Conventions

I'm actually following naming conventions. Boothy443 loves raising a stink about any edits or additions i do. Why am i not surprised he's near the fray this time?

I agree, television stations do not always end with -LP/CA/TV/DT/HD/DR/whatever, however, i was simply changing the ones that *DO* end with such suffixes. so, if putting in a proper title/name a la FCC records is breaking wikipedia policy, then i hereby admit breaking it. I will cease renaming them until the conventions are updated, but i just wish to speak here:

say there's a station called WHAT-TV. it's owned by Whatever Broadcasting, and they have WHAT-FM and WHAT-AM. Now, current conventions say that we have WHAT as the article for the television station, with little notices up top. That's fine, but why don't we have a re-direct to just ONE of the articles instead, with the notice? i know disambig pages would be too much of a hassle, which is why i'm not mentioning them here.

Example: This article is about the fictional television station, WHAT-TV. For the fictional FM radio station of the same name, see WHAT-FM. For the fictional AM station, click WHAT-AM.

So, if a station LEGALLY has -TV as a suffix (WHAT-TV), and is its proper name, then why woudl it be left as WHAT, or WHAT (TV)? doesn't wikipedia strive to be as unambiguated as possible?

One more thing, please call me "coonfox". i find it's easier and shorter to type. :)

In the example you provided, each station should be named based on the callsign. If the call letters of the TV station were in fact WHAT-TV and not WHAT, the article name should be WHAT-TV. If there is more then one station with WHAT in the call sign, like you are providing in your example, then the article WHAT should be a disambig linking to WHAT-TV, WHAT-FM, and WHAT (AM) (AM stations never have the suffix of -AM in the US).
When boothy left a note on my talk page, I looked at his recent edits and saw article moves of stations that you had also moved. KAAL, KIMT, KNSD, and KGTV should all be named as I have just listed them, without a -TV in the article name, as they do not have one in their FCC assigned callsign. Four stations improperly renamed is enough for me to leave a note on another editor's talk page. I hope that this was just an oversight or misunderstading on your part. If it was not, and you do think that these stations should be named Kxxx-TV, please let me know why you think so and you might convince me. —A 06:22, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For KAAL, KIMT, i honestly thought they did end with -TV. Records from fccinfo.com showed that, and i thought this (in conjunction with fcc.GOV, were reputable resorces. Regarding KSND, i was simply trying to match with the rest of the market, since literally *every* other station had -TV/LP/CA as a suffix, so it was a bit of a misunderstanding. However, as for KGTV, i thought that would confuse readers or appear as an incomplete/fabricated call-sign, similar to Toledo cable channel WT05. same for XETV-TV (Fox Tijuana).

If you, Boothy, and the rest are becoming that upset of me contributing, i'll honestly stop and let him stay as a member, and gladly become read-only. I didn't intend to cause an uproar, let alone something like this.

The only problem I've had with your edits has been those that we have discussed. I'm sorry if you feel a bit picked on, but IMO it is always good to get a second opinion with someone else beforing bringing something like this up with another editor. Now that we are on the same page as far as the -TV thing goes, I have zero problem whatsoever with you or your edits. By the way, I checked fccinfo.com and noticed that KAAL and KIMT were listed as KAAL(TV) and KIMT(TV), with the (TV) in parentheses. This is the way fccinfo.com indicates that the TV is not part of the call sign (similar to the way the Wikipedia articles are named when disambiguation is required). Compare to the listing for KFMB-TV, which explicitly uses the -TV suffix with no parentheses. DHowell 00:18, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FCCInfo includes a hyphenated-TV suffix when it's part of the call sign and a (TV) suffix when it's not. I fail to see how that can be considered an oddity or munging data - it's just being abundantly clear. I was the one who blocked your account name shortly after creation back in December, and I'm disappointed to find after all these months that it was quickly unblocked. On the off-chance that user "A" decides to start editing and reactivates his/her dormant account, what then? Or maybe someone will want to be User:<<capital Alpha>> and starts editing with that name... if you protested and claimed confusion with an existing user (yourself), you'd hardly have a leg to stand on.

In many fonts, the glyphs for "A", capital Cyrillic A and capital Alpha are nearly identical or completely identical. Using Cyrillic to create Russian or other names is fine, but using non-Latin letters to spoof Latin letters is always a bad idea. -- Curps 05:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was unblocked because there is no wikipedia policy that state a user cannot have non-latin characters in their username. I understand your logic for autoblocking all users with non-latin characters in their usernames; as most are vandals and are trying to cause cunfusion with their choice of letters. I however am not. I have used the username of "A" on many sites for many years, I feel that this is enough of a reason to use a non-latin character to represent myself on Wikipedia. I did check before using this username to make sure that User:A was not active (0 edits). And as far as needing "a leg to stand on," a user who has put as much time and effort into bettering Wikipedia as I have would have more than enough support to help clear things up. —A 05:46, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's not what I wrote. Non-Latin characters are fine, as part of a clear Russian name or a Chinese or Japanese name or whatever. The problem is when some joker tries to creates "User:Jimbo Wales" where the "o" is a Greek omicron and the "a" is Cyrillic and the "l" is a capital "I" (this has been tried quite a few times now, with various permutations). The problem is not non-Latin characters, it's spoofing, and spoofing usernames routinely get blocked not long after creation, as I did with your username. You are not a vandal or a joker, but your username still involves spoofing.
If by some chance, User:A came back and actually started editing, we'd have two active users with usernames that appeared visually identical. At that point, to avoid unacceptable confusion, one of you would have to change their username, and arguably User:A would have priority since they created it first and you were aware of their account and knowingly created yours anyway. Hopefully User:A will remain dormant and all this will remain hypothetical. -- Curps 07:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WSKG split

I have a problem with the split of the WSKG pages. Information was lost, errors induced, and the navigation made much more difficult as I think people are happier to see everything on a single page. I understand the need for standardized entries for radio and tv callsigns. As a compromise, can we have the entries fro WSKG-TV, WSKG-FM, etc. redirect to the main page? Thanks for asking me to provide feedback, I feel that we can reach a compromise on this. First I'll provide feedback to the problems you addressed by number. 1) I appologize for this, however the only external sources provided were wskg.com and the information I could cull from the FCC. While I might not have spent as much time tracking down this information I knew that if it was important enough that someone from the community would come along and add it back. 2) I don't think that all of the information present here should be. Namely the info box. It was not designed to be used as it is here with information not just about multiple stations, but multiple types of stations (TV and FM); it is confusing, especilaly if one is not familiar with both the stations talked about and broadcast communication. 3) I took a look at wskg.com in search of information about the orginizational structure of the group of stations. Finding none I chose to refer to the stations as a "group". I felt that this was a good term to use that wouldn't imply any particular type of management or ownership arrangement, as I could not confirm either. The article should include more information about this situation and provide a source (direct link, not just wskg.com) to confirm it.
As to my concerns, they are: 1) The unorthodox use of this infobox must go. Add any missing information to infoboxes on the individual station articles. 2) The information about the "governing board and license holder" and the group of stations should be on a page named something other than WSKG. If all of these stations used this as a callsign, I could understand using this as the page, however it is both non-factual and non-conventional here on Wikipedia. 3) Cite all sources. If there were more informative sources about certain aspects of this group of stations and the governing board there of, I would not have been so hesitant to include that information on the pages I created.
Compromise. I disagree that all of the information should be on one page. This is a PBS TV station, an NPR radio station, and a classical radio station; this alone is enough make them each notable to the point of necessitating seperate articles. What they do have in common is this management board that governs them, this is fairly unique and should have an article about it. This article should be about the arrangement and how the stations are related, a blurb about each of them, and then links to each stations article. I am opposed to having the stations just be redirects for these reasons.
What I propose is to 1) Move the information about the governing board, and the aspects that these stations have in common to a new page; WSKG Broadcasting, The WSKG station group, or perhaps the redlink you have on the page now WSKG Public Telecommunications Council (drop the ',inc.'), would be good names for this article. I'm very flexable on the name aspect. 2) Remove the infobox from any page about more then one station. Add infoboxes to the two FM articles. 3) Put a disambig page at WSKG with a large first link pointing to the page with the shared information, and then two or three other links to the WSKG stations and perhaps WSQX-FM. 4) Add future information pertaining to just one of the three to that station's article.
I feel that these measures will help increase the readablilty of the information about these stations, and will bring them inline with Wikipedia standards. Bhuston, I am anxious to hear your reply. —A 20:25, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
