Hello, Παλαδιν, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have noticed that you are fairly new! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. I also see that some of your recent edits show an interest in the use of images and/or photos on Wikipedia.

Did you know that ...

...Wikipedia has a very stringent image use policy?
...most images from Flickr, online news websites, and other web sources are copyrighted?
...Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously?
...freely-licensed images should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, a central location for images where they can be used on all Wikipedia projects?
...we recommend that new users use our "files for upload" process - at least until you get the hang of things?

Non-free content use

Hi Παλαδιν. It appears that you're quite new to Wikipedia and therefore might not be familiar with its various policies and guidelines regarding non-free content use. Wikipedia does permit certain types of copyrighted content (such as album covers and book covers, etc.) to be uploaded and used in article as long as it complies with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy, but this policy is quite restrictive and doesn't allow such files to be used on userpages per non-free content use criterion #9 (see also Wikipedia:User pages#Non-free files). I previously removed a number of non-free files from your userpage with this edit here and left an edit summary explaining why, but you subsequently re-added the files. Perhaps you didn't notice their removal the first time or didn't understand why they were removed, so I posting here to clarify. It's OK to make a mistake once and maybe even twice when you are unfamiliar with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines, but please don't re-add these files to your user page again. You can use freely licensed or public domain files found at Wikimedia Commons in you user boxes instead if you want as explained in Wikipedia:Userboxes#Caution about image use. Re: Non-free content use

Hey! Sorry about that, I thought the reason those pictures were absent is because of a mistake I made whilst editing. I didn't notice the page was edited, so I didn't get to read the edit summary. I apologize for the copyright mishap, and I'll look more closely at the images and their metadata in the future. While we're on the topic, are there any other infoboxes that infringe on the rights? Ex: the picture of J.R.R. Dobbs, the Asgardian flag, etc? --Παλαδιν (talk) 01:55, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The two files for Dobbs and the flag you mentioned above are also licensed as non-free content and cannot be used on your user page. You can use files uploaded to Commons since Commons doesn't accept non-free content, or files uploaded locally to Wikipedia which aren't non-free content. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:21, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
