Adder stones and fearsome critters

[edit]

I couldn't find any evidence that adder stones appear in "Fable" but I did find them mentioned in The Bard's Tale. If you know for sure that they're in "Fable" go ahead and edit it to put that back.

I'll take a look at Fearsome Critters if I get a chance. Did you mean the article to refer to the book entitled "Fearsome Critters" or to the actual creatures themselves? If you meant the book, then the first change I would make is to the first sentence: "Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods by William T. Cox is a book of "scientific" information (including Latin names) about imaginary creatures of American backwoods folklore." Or similar.

On the other hand, if you mean the article to be about the various creatures themselves, then the title may not be acceptable. It's not an actual term like "Yeti" or "Axehandle Hound," it's more just a generic phrase like "scary monsters" or "ugly fish" and that's not usually acceptable for an article title. Think of it this way: if you picked up an encyclopedia, would you look up the phrase "fearsome critters" ? Or would you expect to find something more formal such as "imaginary creatures" or "American folklore animals." If this is the case, I'd suggest merging the information into cryptids ? You could add your critters to the list on that page, and add some of the narrative to the top part of the article... --Bookgrrl 02:45, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, OK. I think we can work with that since it was an "official" folklore term. Thanks. (P.S. Don't forget to sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes ~~~~, that will insert your name and time-stamp.) --Bookgrrl 03:00, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fearsome critters

[edit]

Ask and ye shall receive...a rewrite --Bookgrrl 03:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think so -- it's wikified, formatted nice-nice, we've made it clear where the term came from, and there are a ton of pages that link to it which is a good sign (on any page, if you look over on the left-hand panel and click on "What Links Here" you'll see a list of all the articles that link to that page). Guess we'll find out... --Bookgrrl 03:54, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's LGBT Community

[edit]

Hi, !paradigm!!
You've indicated through various means (a userbox, membership in a category, etc) that you are part of the Wikipedia LGBT community, or are interested in Wikipedia's LGBT related pages. Welcome!

You may not know that Wikipedia has both an LGBT Notice Board and an LGBT Studies WikiProject. If you haven't yet done so, take a look at both of them. They sorely need attention and participation!

Some things on the "To-Do List" that merit particular attention include:

  1. Identifying topics/pages that need attention
  2. Identifying problems that need addressing
  1. Adding the LGBT template to appropriate pages
  2. Categorizing LGBT pages

Please feel free to participate in any or all of these activities! And if you feel like it, add yourself to either the Noticeboard Members or the WikiProject Participants - or both!

Glad you're a part of Wikipedia - and Thanks! This invitation posted here by SatyrTN -- talk

Butterley Tunnel

[edit]

Dear !paradigm!

The Butterley Tunnel article is already larger than existing daughter articles branched from the Cromford Canal page, it has citations and images added since many of the contributors to this debate stated a point of view. Would you consider re-visiting the page and perhaps as a result, change your vote to Keep.

Shmoo

[edit]

The page for Shmoo has no references. The two things I have deleted, I could find no connection to with Shmoos and there are no mentions of them in the article. Exactly how do Shmoos and guinea pigs and fearsome critters relate? Very confusing. The intro to the Fearsome critters page states:

"Fearsome critters was a collective term coined in early American lumberjack folklore for a variety of strange or frightening imaginary beasts which were said to inhabit the timberwoods of North America and Canada."

How does a cartoon character relate to an imaginary beast/folk tale said to inhabit forests in North America?

If there is a relation between Shmoo and a guinea pig, maybe add it to the Shmoo article and not just a "See also" section so that it explains the relation? Otherwise I will revert all again. ExRat 23:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fearsome Critters

[edit]

Well-a-day, well-a-day,

My name is L. S. Sharpe I'm the webmaster of a few little-known sites, among them FearsomeCreaturesOfTheLumberwoods.com and FearsomeCritters.org. It would indicate from you work on Wikipedia that you seem to know a bit on the subject of fearsome critters. Particularly, you mentioned a couple I'm not familiar with. My current list of such creatures is at 124 ( http://groups.google.com/group/wampus-society/web/the-big-list ) and I'm curious of your sources (publications? oral tradition?, &c.) I would like to share information and I hoping we can help each other out.

Tripodero. 23:00, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, even if you can not locate them. If you remember their titles or any general information, be sure to let me know. Thanks again! Tripodero. 06:17, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fearsome Critters, Again

[edit]

Not to be a stickler, but concerning the information on the fearsome creatures article. Unless I can get where the information came from I would have no choice, but to rework the article. As it has been tag for that exact thing. So I guess this will be my last plee before I have to remove the information. (If you can't find the books and don't remember there titles at all, then describe anything you remember about the books to me and I'll try and locate them.)
