Expectation is the second extended play by D.O. a South-Korean singer, a member of the boy group Exo . The album was released on September 18, 2023, by SM Entertainment.[1] It contain seven tracks including lead single " Somebody".[2]
Background
[edit]In an interview with SportSeoul an Korean Media outlet, D.O. disclosed that he finished preparing for his second album on May 2022.[3] On September 8, 2023 the music video for, " I Do" was released by SM entertainment and teasers according to the schedule poster.[4] The album and the title track " Somebody" were released on September 18, 2023 in both digital and physical versions.[5][6]
Promotion
[edit]An hour before the album and the music video release, D.O. appeared on live streaming podcast through YouTube, TikTok and Weverse Exo channel, where he promoted and talked about the album.[7][8]
Album versions
[edit]The album was release in 3 version; Note version, Film version and SMini version (a small miniature album which can access through smartphone produced by SM Entertainment). The note version includes 1 CD, 1 folded poster, 3 letters, 1 photo card and 1 photo book. The film version includes 1 CD, 1 Photo Book, 1 Postcard, 1 Photo Card, 1 Sequence Film and 1 folded poster. As for the SMini version it comes in A and B version which includes 1 Music NFC CD (Near-Field communication)[9] and 1 Photo Card.[10]
Composition
[edit]Expectation features seven songs and is based off of folk pop.[11] Like the album title " Expectation" the songs in the album are about the excitement and expectations in different occasions. The leading single "Somebody" lyrically expresses longing for significant others who can accept him through his flaws.[12] [13]
Billboard ranked Expectation number 18 in top 25 best K-pop releases in 2023 and praised D.O.'s vocal as "one of the most enjoyable vocal performances of the year" as the album showcases D.O. vocal.[14]
On the day of album release Expectation album peaked on worldwide iTune chart in 42 regions as well as South Korea's Hanteo Chart. [15]
