The siege of Yubi was the final major military conflict between Eastern Wei and Western Wei in late 546. Gao Huan, the regent of Eastern Wei, mobilized over 100,000 troops attempting to capture Yubi, which was crucial for Western Wei to maintain control of territory to the east of Yellow River. The 7,000 defenders of Yubi led by Wei Xiaokuan used various tactics to guard the fortress. The 50-day siege proved torturous to Eastern Wei, and Gao was compelled to lift the siege on December 9, suffering heavy loss.
The failure at Yubi was the final military campaign launched by Gao, who fell ill during the siege and died two months later. The battle was usually considered as the turning point during the Gao–Yuwen War, after which Eastern Wei and the following Northern Qi was forced into defensive.
