Hello! I am a novice editor who has been following the Matooskie page. I tried my hand at a CE on that article, for a bit, but left it to return to later; and I'm glad I did. It was nice to watch someone do some good editing as a way to learn: it helped that I had reviewed it previously. Your edits were simple, careful and clear; and they nicely resolved some of the little awkward bits by gently inserting ideas -- like the one about "country wives" and "marriages à la façon du pays" -- back into the narrative. I also appreciated the way you gave an "unknown First Peoples wife" more status by subtly enlarging her identity, while also clarifying the family history; and appreciated how, when you later added "this manner of European-Native common law marriage" to describe Matooskie's marriage, your CE helped to clarify the historical practice without teaching. (You had earlier deleted some parentheticals about "common law" marriage, including my own, that did teach, rather than describe.)
So thanks. I'd give you a gold star, if only I knew how. — Yogabear2020 (talk) 00:15, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
