Politics of the Maldives |
---|
The Cabinet of the Maldives is the most senior level of the executive branch of the Government of the Maldives. It is made up of the President, the Vice President, Attorney General and ministers who head each of the government ministries. All Cabinet members are nominated and sworn in by the President and then presented to the Majlis for confirmation or rejection by a simple majority. If rejected, they are removed from office. Members of the Cabinet serve at the pleasure of the President, which means that the President may dismiss them or reappoint them (to other posts) at will.
The number of cabinet ministers and the titles of their portfolio ministries have differed from different terms of presidency. The current cabinet of President Abdulla Yameen has 13 ministers for 13 government ministries in addition to the President, the Vice President and the Attorney General.
