Article Evaluation Essay
[edit]Marysville Getchell High School is a newer campus. It was opened in 2010 and is home to many students. I have personally attended MGHS for 2 years and can say it was a good experience. The school is a campus consisting of five buildings, four of them three stories tall and one of them two stories tall. Getchell is considered an academic school in Marysville, and Pilchuck is known for sports. In this essay, I will be evaluating an article that has been written on Marysville Getchell High school. I visited the Marysville Getchell High School article on Wikipedia and found three aspects worth commenting on: the article has some irrelevant topics, some viewpoints are underrepresented regarding the education system, and information on buildings outweigh the rest of the article.
Firstly, I'm going to explain why the article has irrelevant topics. "The building exteriors are clad in aluminum, fiber cement board, and high-efficiency glass.", this is a quote from the Marysville Getchell High School Wikipedia page. This is irrelevant because when trying to find information on a high school, the components of the building are not needed. For example, when searching for a Wikipedia article on a library, the last thing that would come to mind is what kind of metal they used to build it. "The railings throughout the Marysville Getchell Campus are heated for the students' comfort.", another quote from the Marysville Getchell High School Wikipedia page. Although this is a nice feature to have, this has no relevance to the school itself.
Secondly, the education system is not discussed enough. The article talks about the past education program where the four buildings each represented their own field of studies. The education part of a school is very important when it comes to reading about a school. An example being colleges, they have their own programs giving each college its own pros and cons. It is the same thing with high schools so it's important to have information on what they can offer education-wise.
Furthermore, the information on buildings outweighs the rest of the article. The way the article is formatted focuses more on the physical aspect of the school. The headers of the paragraphs are labeled "facilities" and "design and green features". This sets up the body paragraphs of the article to focus on the building's physical features and design.
In conclusion, this article was very informative if the reader wanted to know about the physical school. However, if the reader wanted to know about the education program or teachers, this article won't help with giving them that knowledge. It also includes information that is not relevant. The majority of the article focuses on the design and features of the school but fails to include other information about what the school has to offer.
Bio
[edit]About me
[edit]I'm a high school student in Washington state participating in running start. I love sports, I play/do football, track, and swim and dive. One of my main hobbies is going to the gym and eating healthy because food is what fuels you and delivers the calories and nutrients your body needs to function[1]. I don't have any house pets. I do have a koi pond with a small waterfall in my backyard. l like traveling, I've been to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Hawaii. And with the little free time I have I play video games.
My Wikipedia interests
[edit]I plan on using Wikipedia to complete assignments for school. Throughout this school year I expect my writing to improve. I use Wikipedia for things like finding out who a person is to winning an argument. Although I do not believe this site to be very trustworthy to use for essays I do use it to find quick information. I grew up with the internet so reading from physical encyclopedias are hassle for me when I can just use Wikipedia.
