My name is Zane Selvans. I grew up in a largely Mexican-American community in the San Joaquin Valley of California, before attending Caltech in Pasadena. I did a PhD in planetary geophysics at the University of Colorado Boulder mostly studying Europa.
Now I work on US energy and climate policy, supplying open energy system data to advocates and policymakers, doing data engineering using open source software primarily in the Python programming language.
I'm interested in cooperative economics and have worked on developing housing cooperatives through NASCO and the Boulder Housing Coalition, a bulk food buying cooperative in Boulder, Colorado, and Catalyst Cooperative, the Worker cooperative that I am currently a part of. I'm also a big fan of utilitarian cycling, the Passive house standard, and the urban design philosophy of Jan Gehl.
I am a permanent resident of Mexico.
Unsurprisingly, my primary editing interests on Wikipedia have to do with sustainability, energy and climate policy, open data, and cooperatives.
