The History of Yeovil Town Football Club is described in detail in two separate articles:
- History of Yeovil Town F.C. (1895–1955) – The club were founded in 1895 after the team split from the rugby side and originally joined the Somerset Senior League. The team originally played at the Pen Mill Athletic Ground next to the Yeovil Pen Mill railway station where after the First World War they joined the Western League and in 1920 moved to the Huish where they would stay for the next 70 years, famous for the notorious pitch which had an 8-foot sideline to sideline slope and then joined the Southern League in 1922. The clubs most famous FA Cup run under manager Alec Stock run reaching the fifth round in 1948-49 including one of the greatest shocks in FA Cup history beating First Division side Sunderland 2-1 AET before losing to Manchester United 8-0 in the fifth round. Under manager Ike Clarke Yeovil won the Southern League and Southern League Cup double during the 1954-55 season.
- History of Yeovil Town F.C. (1955–2015) – Two further Southern League titles followed in 1964 and 1971, the club attempted to be elected to The Football League on 28 separate occasions coming within 3 votes in 1975-76 and took part in their only European campaign in 1976-77 in the Anglo-Italian Cup coming second in their group. In 1979 Yeovil were founder members of the new national non-League division the Football Conference but were relegated for the first time in their history in 1985 to the Isthmian League. The club returned to the Conference for the 1988-89 and the following season they won the Conference League Cup and moved to their new ground Huish Park in 1990, another relegation soon followed in 1995 with former England international Graham Roberts as player-manager. Gary Johnson's appointment as manager in 2001 brought about immediate success in the FA Trophy in 2002 beating Stevenage Borough in the final at Villa Park. In the next season the club ended their 108-year wait for League football as champions of the Football Conference by a record points margin of 17 points. It took just two season for the club to record another promotion from Football League Two to Football League One as Champions and then two seasons later under the stewardship of Russell Slade they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Football League Championship losing 2-0 to Blackpool at Wembley Stadium in the 2007 Football League One play-off Final. After four seasons of fighting relegation, Johnson returned to the club as manager and under his stewardship he led the club to victory over Brentford in the 2013 Football League One play-off Final and promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club's history, before consecutive relegations saw the club fall back to League Two.
