Are you a noob? Me too! This is a page of useful tips I learned while editing Wikipedia that might help you out:

  1. Don't worry about memorizing code! If you want to do something and don't know how, just go to a page that has what you want, and copy and paste the portion of code that tells Wikipedia to do that in the code of the page you're editing. Then fiddle around with it until it's the way you want it. If you have trouble finding where that code is, just copy the text right above (or near) the thing you want, go to "edit this page" (or "source") and hit ctrl-F. This should bring you to the area in the source that tells Wikipedia to do the thing you want. After a while, you'll get used to the functions you use a lot.
  2. Use the cheatsheet!
  3. Edit your userpage a lot! This helps you become used to editing Wikipedia and may make you more willing to be bold! (It did for me!)
  4. If you have trouble finding reliable sources, search external links in Wikipedia articles similar to the ones you're editing. There may be information on the article you're editing in those links. Chances are these links are to reliable sources because they haven't been removed.
