Age of Empires II has had a history of esports since its very introduction into the RTS genre in 1999 with the release of the first iteration of the game Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. With the recent release of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition there has been a resurgence in the esport as major sponsors have become interested in the esport such as Redbull [1] and Microsoft[2].

Professional Age of Empires 2 Players

Ørjan Larsen, better known by his in-game name TheViper, is a Norwegian professional Age of Empires player who is currently playing for GamerLegion. Since he has become an active player in 2010, TheViper has won more tournaments than any other Age of Empires in history and is widely regarded as one of the most successful Age of Empires players of all time. "TheViper" reached over 90 tournaments won in Age of Empires II, an all time record. He was listed as #15 on Sportspedia's World Sports List. TheViper is the highest tournament earning Age of Empires player with a total earnings of $139,416. [3][4][5][6][7].

Hamzah "Hera" El-Baher is a Canadian Age of Empires II player who is currently playing for Tempo Storm. He is the highest rated Canadian player and recent winner of Hidden Cup. [8] [9]

Drako "DauT" Dautovic is a Serbian Age of Empires player who has been playing competitive Age of Empires longer than any other player. He is the highest rated Serbian player and the recent winner of RedBull Wololo 2. [10]

There have been various Age of Empires tournaments starting in 1999 up until present day.

Professional Age of Empires squads

Various gaming teams have a professional Warcraft III squad. These squads represent their team in such leagues as the Warcraft 3 Champions League and the NGL One professional league. Players also represent their team in various individual leagues. This needs to be updated.
