Biography
[edit]An alumnus of Alcuin College, University of York, having also undertaken a placement at the British Institute in East Africa, I have a background in heritage and archaeology, and am a member of the Royal Historical Society. Welcome to my user page. Feel free to leave me a message on my talk page (please try to use the categories) or contact me on Twitter at @The_M_Thomas if you wish.
Please note: Any ongoing project I may be undertaking is my own work, I am not affiliated with any employer in any way, paid or unpaid. Therefore there is no conflict of interest regarding my editing of pages related to the subjects I have an interest in, as per the conflict of interest guideline.
In the press
[edit]Between 2017 and 2019 I was the Media Liaison Officer for the short lived but highly publicised Yorkshire International Football Association, the governing body of the Yorkshire representative football team, as members of the global football body, CONIFA. In this role I was responsible for organising media content for publication with internationally recognised publishers including traditional print publications such as The Independent[1] and The Guardian[2], international news and sports broadcasters such as the BBC[3], BT Sport and Sky Sports, and publications including Four Four Two magazine.
I have also appeared on national and regional television and radio stations, including Channel Four News and BBC Look North and gave a number of interviews with print publications, for example with These Football Times[4], whilst acting as General Manager, to discuss Yorkshire International Football Association’s response to a terrorist attack against a football stadium in Barawa.
I also wrote articles of a wider political theme for regional Yorkshire newspaper, The Yorkshire Post[5], whilst elected to the Executive Committee of the regional political party, The Yorkshire Party, in the run up to the 2019 General Election, helping the party to secure the sixth largest vote share nationally in England, despite only contesting seats in the Yorkshire region.
Other heritage projects
[edit]I have previously led on a number of heritage projects, including a research project for a local war memorial, which ended in a successful bid for Grade II listed status, with Historic England. I have a passion for British baseball history and I am currently in the process of writing my first full length book on the subject.
