Vlamis (βλάμης in Greek) is used as a term to describe the tradition of blood-brothers. There is a whole ritual that it was followed in order for two men to become vlamidhes. In the past it used to happen during wars and battles, so the two men would cut their palm with a knife and then they would hold each others palms to mix the blood. In Souli region, specifically in the villages Laka and Fanurio, they tradition was carried amongst women as well, those were called motrumes. In times of peace, there was an entire rite that was taking place in church and would get blessings by a priest, part of the rite was similar to the wedding rite. This was happening even if the two men or women were not belonging in the same religion.
