[edit]As of the 2011 Australian Census, about 221,114 respondents declared Vietnamese ancestry.[46] Of those, 36% (79,353) live in the Greater Melbourne area,[47] and another 36% (79,410) live in the Greater Sydney area.[48]
- In Melbourne, Victoria Street in the suburb of Richmond is often nicknamed Little Saigon or Little Vietnam[1][2], as is Footscray.[3] Nearby Springvale and Fairfield have sizable Vietnamese populations.
- In Sydney, both Bankstown and Cabramatta are promoted as Little Saigon.[4][5]
New Caledonia
[edit]During the 1890s to early 1950s, Vietnamese contract laborers and prisoners were recruited to work the nickel mines of the island. The population, collectively referred to as Chân Đăng, as of 2009 was about 2,357.[49]
