Background
[edit]College and career readiness has always been one of the main focuses of US educational policy. The standards and practices used by teachers to prepare their students are not being developed by post secondary scholars and professionals. Due to this, success in post secondary writing courses has deterred as the lines between educational institutions continue to solidify. The goal of the framework is to strengthen the bond across all levels of education and lessen the rigorous transition into post secondary education.
Its Creation
[edit]The framework would need to consider all possible audiences and offer a versatile rhetoric that all groups may benefit from. In order to do so, members from each of the three main writing organizations, including the n.w.p, all offered their unique perspectives and collaborated. This task force assembled consisted of Peggy O'Neill, Linda Adler-Kassner, Cathy Fleischer, and Anne-Marie Hall.
Through their collaboration a total of three documents were created. The first one is the framework itself while the other contains suggestions for professional development which builds on the first one. The last one is filled with evidence and research that supports the framework
Goals of the Framework
[edit]The document assesses the different factors that effectively prepare students for success in post secondary courses. The document containing the framework provides teachers effective strategies that establish, strengthen, and expand students' foundational knowledge about writing. The framework itself emphasizes and promotes the establishment of critical thinking, habits of mind that allow students the ability to grow and properly expand their knowledge in ways that can be implemented into their writing
