The Chinese Historical Review

The Chinese Historical Review is the official publication of Shandong University for the preparatory work of the 22nd International Congress of Historical Sciences, with 6 issues per year. It is expected that this journal will develop into a profoundly influential, authoritative, and academic platform with the help of this international conference.

Focus on mainstream historical and authoritative writings
Emphasize the influence of history on intellectuals, political elites and entrepreneurs
Set up a special column for International Congress of Historical Sciences in contact with historical organizations from all over the world

It is widely recognized that The Chinese Historical Review targets intellectuals, political elites and entrepreneurs. Lynad S. Bell, professor of East Asian Studies at University of California-Berkeley, said “ in my view, history journals of nearly three decades in China, have been narrow and specialized, confined to a small part of the historians, or too vulgar and shallow, focusing so hard on deciphering, prying into privacy and town talk. There appears to be no history journal for intellectuals, political elites and entrepreneurs. The foundation of The Chinese Historical Review makes me cautiously optimistic.”^[2]

Value academic issues with high public concern. There has been a column for International Congress of Historical Sciences and every issue will publish literature and academic achievements related to the Congress. The Chinese Historical Review Special Issue, A Brief History Of International Congress of Historical Sciences, China and International Congress of Historical Science, etc., make a breakthrough in the study of congress history, China and International Congress of Historical Science, and the work of collection, translation and organization for documents and video images of the congress, earning widespread attention home and abroad. Yu Pei, vice-president of the Chinese Historical Association, acclaimed “ this is the most fundamental, essential but also the most original work.”

Inherit the spirit of Historical and Geographical Review (Shi Di Xue Bao《史地学报》)and Literature, History and Philosophy (Wen Shi Zhe《文史哲》）in the early stage, and combine journal running with student cultivation together. From the first to the sixth issue, the journal published 22 original studies from academic masters, both in and out of China, but 21 papers from young scholars, 52 reading notes, 20 research collections and 19 original articles from young students (undergraduates, postgraduates).
