About me

My hobbies include going on long adventurous road trips with my friends and traveling the local areas of our city, as well as surrounding states. When you return from a road trip or a vacation, you always feel better because you took a break amidst all the stress of your day to day job or attending school every day.

Something else I like to do when I have excessive free time that can quickly turn into a hobby is decluttering and organizing. Experts have recently put a link between insomnia, mental health issues with hoarding unnecessary things, which ties in with un organization. I do see the truth in this because in most cases if the room isn't clean before I go to bed...then I simply don't go to bed, I put in those extra 15 minutes to get it cleaned.

My Wikipedia interests

If I'm active on Wikipedia in the future, I will most likely use it as a way of researching the information that has been reviewed by normal everyday people like me. Maybe I will use Wikipedia to find relevant information and research what other people referenced. I have previously used Wikipedia to learn things about famous people, animals, and many other subjects.

Article Evaluation

Introduction

After searching for a good article, I came across an article about coffee in Seattle. In the article I evaluated, I took a look at some of the information that was included. The article itself was about coffee and the city of Seattle, mostly about how Seattle is a city that basically lives off of coffee. Myself being a constant coffee drinker, I took interest in reading this article. I chose to review this article because it fit the criteria and was about a topic that I took interest in. I visited the Coffee in Seattle article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: not each fact was cited with a reliable source, the citations are not as current as possible, and there are dead links included in this article.

Not each fact cited was a reliable source.

In this article, each fact was not cited with appropriate sources. There were many statements in the article like “Seattle is regarded as a world center for coffee roasting and coffee supply chain management. Related to this, many of the city’s inhabitants are coffee enthusiasts; the city is known for its prominent coffee culture and numerous coffeehouses.” These types of statements in the article were not backed up by any cited sources. There were hyperlinks to the words in bold to different wiki articles. Although there are numerous examples of statements that weren’t backed up by citations, most of them had references and links at the bottom of the page. I then clicked on each reference then each link to open up the cited sources and briefly read through them. Some were quite dated and others did not even exist.

The Citations were not as current as possible.

Although there were citations for most of the information, when I went to go look at the dates, they were articles that were updated between 5 and 10 years ago. There were some articles that were updated less than a month ago. Reference #18 was the most recent one and it was retrieved on September 27, 2020. There are sources that date all the way back to 1987 (Reference #19).

As I proceeded to click through every single link and the links that I found to be dead were reference numbers 2, 5, 12, and 19. I found that for some of these links, the website would open but the articles themselves were not there. They were either removed or they don’t work. Some of the articles were websites, others were PDF's and some came from books.
