Background
[edit]Filler text[1]
By February 2021, the 3000 series had become the most prominent commuter train operated by Odakyu at the time, with 346 cars built.[2]
Design evolution
[edit]Batch 1
[edit]This batch consists of four 6-car sets (3251–3254)[1] that were built by Nippon Sharyo in 2001.[3]: 81
Batch 2
[edit]This batch of sets was introduced in 2003, featuring external and internal changes over the previous batch. The passenger door width was unified to 1,300 millimetres (51 in), whereas the previous batch used a mixture of 1,300-and-1,600-millimetre-wide (51 and 63 in) passenger doors.[5]
Subsequent batches
[edit]On 14 February 2004, Odakyu introduced into service a six-car set (3263) equipped with noise-dampening undercarriage covers, following an experiment conducted in 2002 to compare the effect of such covers on environmental noise. It was observed that the covers reduced environmental noise by 3 decibels.[6] This set was also built with additional improvements to further reduce environmental noise, including higher traction motor gearing and redesigned cooling fans.[6]
History
[edit]10-car set introduction
[edit]Between 2010 and 2011, eight cars were delivered from Kawasaki Heavy Industries[7] and used to form two 10-car sets—3091 and 3092 (formerly six-car sets 3280 and 3281, respectively).[8] The first 10-car set, 3091, entered service on 20 January 2011.[9]
