Batches 1–7 (05 series)

The first seven 05 series batches were delivered between 1988 and 1994.[1]

Fourth-batch set 14 was built with experimental variable-frequency (VVVF) traction control, as well as 1,800-millimetre-wide (71 in) passenger doors to reduce dwell times, although the doors directly behind the crew compartment retained the standard 1,300 mm (51 in) width. Its acceleration was reduced to 3.0 km/(h⋅s) (1.9 mph/s), as opposed to 3.3 (2.1) for the chopper-controlled sets.[1]

Fifth-batch sets 15–18, delivered in 1992, were built with wheelchair spaces in cars 2 and 9 from new. These were also the last vehicles procured by TRTA to use chopper-controlled DC traction motors.[1]

Sixth-batch sets 19–21, delivered in 1993, were built with numerous improvements and alterations inherited from the then-new 06 and 07 series designs. These included IGBT-VVVF traction control with a motor output of 205 kW (275 hp), a redesigned interior, and bolsterless bogies. Unlike set 14, these sets maintain the same acceleration performance as the previous chopper-controlled sets, despite also having four motored cars. In addition, the 1,800 mm doors were discontinued as they proved unpopular for sacrificing seated capacity.[1][2]

With seventh-batch sets 22–24, delivered in 1994, one car was designated as a mildly air-conditioned car. This change was later implemented across the remaining fleet.[1] Set 24 was built using recycled aluminium components from scrapped aluminium-bodied 5000 series cars; its front ends and interior are thus adorned with "Aluminium Recycled Car" stickers to indicate this.[3]

[edit]
13th-batch set 43 in May 2022

Built in 2004, this is the final 05N series batch, with four 10-car sets (40–43) built by Hitachi to its A-train concept.[1] This batch was jointly developed with the 2000 series operated by Toyo Rapid Railway, intended to replace the operator's ageing 1000 series fleet.[4][5]
