To do
[edit]- Try to remember the CRPP wiki what was good or bad
- Check if possible to make certain pages in restrained access for a group of users only
- Make some examples to illustrate the different points below
List of subpages
[edit]- User:Xonqnopp/job/sandbox
- User:Xonqnopp/job/TemplateProject
- User:Xonqnopp/job/TemplateFile
- User:Xonqnopp/job/PorjectOne
Pros
[edit]- Version control with history kept (modification, time, person) also for external files (pictures), possible to see the difference between revisions
- Templates (subst)
- Possible to use a hierarchy such as directories on a computer
- Cross-platform and requiring no software but a web browser on the user side
- Many tools available (what links here, where file is used, Special pages, categories)
- Many people can work at once on the same page, merging tool for people trying to save a file too old
- Categories enable management of things on hold (e.g. orders). Maybe possible to have pop-ups to warn the concerned users that there is a new item on a watched page.
- Keyword search is very efficient
Cons
[edit]- May be different when printed than appearing at screen, but should be configurable
- Not possible to send a document to an external person, but possible to allow specifically external people for a given time period
- Documentation on wiki, working files on server (matlabtoolbox, perl and so on)
Open questions
[edit]- I could not achieved it here, but maybe if we set up our own wiki we can change this in the code. It could be possible to have pages listing subpages without itself and displaying by default if subpages exist and no page is found.
- subst (modification, no more linked to template updates) vs non-subst (update of template, modification only where allowed)
