Japanese Folklore

Folklore in Japan occupy a significant part of Japanese culture, as there was a fascination of the cult of the serpent. This cult could regularly be found in mythological texts, narratives, customs and rituals.^[1] This would explain the prominence of serpents and highlight why Orochimaru was commonly found within Japanese narratives, becoming a mythical creature that was often referenced in folklore. However, the serpent was depicted as being evil in story with Jiraiya, suggesting that mythical creatures also had a sense of morality.
