Like every other large city, Moscow has many hotels that vary from 2 and up to 5 stars in quality. Several large hotel chains are present in Moscow, including Sheraton, Mariott and Radisson, while cheaper accomodation options are available as well[1].
In 2010, there were 267 hotels in Moscow, while by 2020 it's planned to bring that amount to 535[2].
Moscow hotels prices are usually very high, and it's something that leads to hotels being half-vacant even during peak holiday season[3]
There are numerous explanations to that. The first one says that after global reccession there has been a sharp decline in global travels[3], while the second one blames Moscow authorities on demolishing a lot of Soviet mid-priced hotels to make room for expensive 5 star ones[3].
In order to deal with excessive pricing, numerous other options are available on the market, including hostels[4] and short-term apartment rental.
