XERSA

Born in Daylesford, a rural tourist destination and extensive artistic community. Art was not a choice but a destiny. Growing up with a mother who enjoyed playing music and painting who grew up in Chelsea, Melbourne and a Father who was an A Grade Mechanical Engineer who started his career at the Laverton Air Base in Melbourne. They married and moved to the country.
Xersa moved to Ballarat to study art in 1969 and then moved to Melbourne.
Xersa was a name developed for a business running a Textile Design Studio from 1975 for 15 years. It was made a legal name changed from Christine Limb in the early 1980's when everyone thought that "Xersa Designs" must be the birth name and began using it for addressing. Xersa's clientelle was for resort wear, furnishing, manchester and childrens wear with some designs being distributed Internationally and featured in Vogue magazine and front page news.
Xersa is a contemporary artist mostly concerned with drawing. Current events that may effect our wellbeing are compared by research into ancient art and mythology and drawn with the message of regeneration and resilience. Mediums employed are charcoal and conte because they have been utilized since ancient cave artists discovered ochre and burnt sticks. Drawings using these materials are beautiful and can be respectfully defined as finished art.
Xersa studied Fine Art at BIAE and RMIT and second year Industrial Design at RMIT advanced standing. Some awards were finalist in the 1993 Dobell Prize For Drawing at The Art Gallery of New South Wales. Selected for the Salon Des Refuses in 1996 at S.H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney. Awarded for Excellence in Art at DTHS 1968 and numerous awards including Highly Commended at Diamond Valley Art Awards and Dandenong Arts Festival awards.
Xersa has experience of over 20 solo exhibitions and 40 group exhibitions all including three exhibitions in New York City one in London and several in Melbourne and at the Logan Art Gallery in Queensland and the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Artworks are included in Institutional collections in Australia, London, Brooklyn and New York City.
Xersa assisted with the exhibition of "The Aberrant Object, Women dada and surrealism" at Heide Museum of Modern Art, various shows at the Meat Market Craft Centre curating three exhibitions of the Victorian State Craft Collection. As Curator, Xersa held "Sisters As Artists" at Logan Art Gallery, "Sevensunsevenmoons" fundraiser for Trust For Nature and Open Family organizations at Fortyfivedownstairs Gallery in Melbourne and "Regeneration" fundraiser for the new Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre. A residency at the Drawing Room Outset Library in London produced an Artists hand made book for their collection.
