Xavier Castellà

Xavier Castellà (born on August 17, 1978 in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean-Catalan trumpet player and journalist.

Castellà earned Bachelor’s and Licentiate’s degrees in Social Communication, with a diploma in communication strategies for companies and institutions from Universidad de Artes, Ciencias y Comunicación (UNIACC), and a Master's degree in Business Communication from the University of Barcelona. Has worked at institutions like Banco de Chile (Citi), the National Office of Emergency of the Ministry of the Interior in Chile (ONEMI), and Nissan Motor Company in Catalonia.

Castellà received cello lessons since a very young age through the Suzuki method. Later, he learned how to play the saxophone and trumpet at The International School Nido de Águilas, where he was principal trumpet in the advanced band, as well as principal cello in the chamber orchestra. Between 1989 and 1997, he studied at the Music Institute, Faculty of Arts, of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC). Later, seeking for further specialization in the trumpet , he entered the Projazz International School of Music. Some of his teachers include Jorge Román, Javier Contreras and José Vergara.

Over the years, Xavier played the trumpet in Europe, North America, and South America and participated in festivals and recitals with artists such as Edward Brown, Luis Cheul, Christian Gálvez and Juan Carlos Alvarado, among others. Likewise, has joined groups such as the The Musicantes Collective, directed by Sebastián Errázuriz, and the Projazz Big Band, directed by Gerhard Mornhinweg. He has also performed at shows broadcasted by Chilean National Television (TVN), Channel 13 (Chile), Chilevisión, Mega, Enlace TBN, Channel 2 in Santiago, and other important stages such as the Chile Stadium and Sala Master (Radio University of Chile).
