This page in a nutshell: Resolve disputes calmly, through civil discussion and consensus-building on relevant discussion pages. There are several available options to request opinions from editors outside the dispute: other dispute resolution mechanisms include requests for comments, mediation or, after all other methods have been tried, arbitration. |
This policy describes what to do when you have a dispute with another editor.
Avoiding conflict
[edit]- How to keep editors discussing smoothly
Follow the normal protocol
[edit]All edits must be neutral, well-sourced, and must contain no original research. Include an edit summary. Try to improve text instead of deleting it.
Don't be a dick.
Discuss with the other party
[edit]Discussion with other editors is imperative to the smooth running of any community. The point of all discussion on Wikipedia is to reach a consensus.
Focus on content
[edit]Focus on the article, not on the editor. Wikipedia is built upon the principle of collaboration, and assuming that the efforts of others are in good faith is important to our community.
Disengage
[edit]Most situations are not urgent. Because there are no deadlines, you can always fix the problem later.
