ENA (Stylized as ƎNA) is a surrealist animated web series on YouTube and Newgrounds, created by Peruvian animator Joel Guerra.[1] The episodes are centered around the main character, ENA, a girl[2] of the same name who has multiple distinct personalities which she switches through seemingly at random, and Moony, a dramatic and opinionated cartoonish moon. ENA's appearance is inspired by Picasso's Girl before a Mirror and by the artwork of Romero Britto. ENA changes her appearance with her personality switches, with few exceptions throughout the series. The series features both traditional and computer-generated animation. The series is distinctly unclear about the meaning or origin of most of its contents. The characters were first designed on Feburary 23, 2020, where Joel Guerra posted on Twitter a short video of a beta design of ENA, followed by an illustration of ENA next to Moony as a reply.[1][3][4]

Episodes

[edit]

The series has four episodes in total, Auction Day, released in May 26, 2020, Extinction Party, released in September 15, 2020, and Temptation Stairway, released in February 15, 2021.

In Auction Day, the main two characters ENA and Moony are shown going to an auction, where a small puppet presents a 3D render of a dog inside of an hourglass. As a group of tombstones begin bidding for the item, they begin to get crushed by falling "rain-rocks" and the auction is cancelled.

In Extinction Party, the main character ENA enters a maze after going through security to speak to Moony. Along the way, she encounters many odd, surrealist, and nonsensical characters, along with multiple difficult pathways, until she reaches Moony. She says that she wants to give Moony a gift, and initially Moony is disappointed as ENA's hands are empty, but the end of the episode reveals that ENA was calling Moony "the gift."

In Temptation Stairway, the main two characters ENA and Moony are conversing in an area filled with animate mannequins, where they discuss making a bet where they must reach a location called The Great Runas and make a wish first, though they must "pay the debts" of the loser; when a large figure with long legs and a large, orange door on top begins walking through the crowd, which mannequins can be seen attempting to climb. ENA has to move through the mannequins, meeting more surreal and nonsensical characters on the way, however she fails to reach the figure in time and is instead transported to a room, where a man named Ulysses tells her that her way to the Great Runas is through the, "Holy Code," located behind her. After entering the Holy Code and going through more bizarre locations and characters, a pink dolphin named PhinDoll tells her she needs to "stain the water red," and a green floating orb leads her to a fountain. After staining the water red, the intense fog disappears and ENA finds her way to Moony, who already made a wish to become thinner, turning her into a more humanoid form, with one half grey and one half white, and far less facial features asides from one eye on her white side.

Power of Potluck is the fourth episode in the webseries.
