Southern Highlands Christian School (SHCS) is an independent non-denominational Christian co-education day school, located in Bowral, Southern Highlands, New South Wales, Australia.[6] The school facilitates 400 students including preparatory, primary and secondary education.[7][8] SHCS is a current member of Christian Education National (CEN), an association with over 80 schools across Australia.[9][10]

History
[edit]In 1983, the school originated in the hall of Bowral Baptist Church, with only one teacher and seven students. The first offical classes were held in 1987, on a volunteer built site, which remains the school's current location.[11]
Facilties
[edit]The school campus features a rugby oval, a cricket oval, two cricket nets, a basketball court, a fitness gym, a gymnasium, and a multipurpose court (basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball, futsal).[12][13][14] Southern Highlands Christian School has specialist classrooms including dedicated woodwork, art, music, and drama rooms and science labs.
In 2017, the school opened a new junior learning complex, near the front of campus.[15][16]
A whole school canteen operates Wednesdays and Fridays.

Southern Highlands Christian School participates in various extra-curricular and outdoor education. The school has previous represented itself in Mock Trial[29], organised by the Law Society of New South Wales.[30][31] In addition, SHCS participates in the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA), which is organised by the Southern Highlands Rotary Club. In 2019, SHCS achieved 1st Prize locally and 2nd Prize in the national event, which is coordinated by the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise.[32] Southern Highlands Christian School maintains an academic rivalry between other local independent schools, including Oxley College, Chevalier College & Frensham School.[33]
Southern Highlands Christian School offers a wide variety of outdoor education activities including:

The Christian School coordinates several annual Mission Trips/Events;[7][34]
- Year 7 assists with Riding for the Disabled.[27]
- Year 8 is involved in Bike for Bibles.
- Year 9 travels into the Sydney CBD to assist and care for people who experience homelessness.
- Year 10 travels to Bourke, New South Wales.
- Year 11 travels to Vanuatu.
