Special Combat Sang Moo Do®
The Special Combat Sang Moo Do® is an international spy and undisclosed combat martial art that was created in Korean Goryeo Dynasty 941 AD for the spies, elite force and special guard of the emperor confidentially which teaches and encourages special spy fighting techniques, spy weapons, elite force training, intellectual enhancement, and artistic pursuits. It has a very involved technique structure. For centuries Sang Moo Do ® was practiced, with many variations and improvements, by the Sang Moo Do ® warrior clans.
Eventually, the supreme monk named, Kim Teuahnm Dosa (Note that "Dosa" is actually his title, and it is roughly equivalent to "hermit sage expert.") trained Chang Seong Jun secretly in the Ling Thaeumn Sa Temple of North Korea for the government and gave him as the 56th successive holder of the title of Do Joo Nim "Supreme Grandmaster" of Sang Moo Do® with the complete spy and elite force martial art skill and techniques, especially the most renowned and extraordinary syllabus of anti-pistol, anti-sword, anti-knife, anti-rifles and anti-terrorism techniques in June 1941. Then he later escaped to South Korea during the communist takeover and taught these secret weapons to the governments globally for the anti-terrorists and national security purpose.
Sang Moo Do ® combat martial art is becoming internationally known and extremely suitable for anti-terrorism, special close operation, espionage or any close unarmed combat activities. Due to its serious application, it is commonly used by the Special Forces and espionage agencies confidentially and globally. For many years, this combat martial art seems to be benefiting and satisfying the needs of Special Forces operations and many other elite military / non military law enforcement operations, especially for the defense and security of the nation.
It is primarily a striking art and free-style full contact sparring by using punching, kicking (jumping and flying high kicks), leading attacker's momentum (using entering and turning movements), restraining, relaxation and meditation, throwing, falling, breaking(bricks, tiles, blocks of ice or other materials), focusing (on mental and ethical discipline, justice, etiquette, respect, and self-confidence), joint-locking, ground fighting, knee and elbow strikes and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands and ridge-hands. Grappling, locks, restraints, throws, hold downs, chokes and vital point strikes are taught in Sang Moo Do for the espionage or elite force mission that encompasses of the realistic combat style of fighting with real life rather than sport. Unlike many Asian styles, the special combat martial art has no predetermined fighting stances, but teaches you to defend yourself in the most hazardous situation against single or big numbers of armed attackers and gunned terrorists from any position. Apart from defending, the Sang Moo Do ® practitioners are also trained to disarming the attacking weapons and also to improvise the use of the available weapons.
Furthermore, Sang Moo Do® is the world's deadliest combat martial art with over 6,800 spy combat fighting techniques, as well as 93 special weapons (pistols, rifles, long sword, knife, nunchaku, batons, etc) and 3230 anti-weapons (pistols, rifles, long sword, knife, nunchaku, batons, etc) spy or elite force techniques. The entire syllabus is NOT concentrated on sports and competition at all like the other famous martial arts, and more importantly, the practicality of the techniques worked professionally and efficiently for the Special Forces and Spies ONLY for their specialized mission and as the undisclosed secret weapon which is unknown to their enemies, including the modernized and improved syllabus with unarmed combat professionalism of Hostage rescue in (jungle, aircraft, train & bus), Urban warfare, Urban militia warfare, Urban guerilla warfare, Tank Takeout in Jungle & urban, Offensive Sabotaging & Hijacking the enemies’ (aircraft, train, UCAV, vessel & vehicles), Close VIP Protection, Fighting Against 1-100 Armed Attackers, Escape from the Enemies’ Base, Close Quarter Combat, Silent Killing, Unarmed Assassination, Ship Boarding, Espionage or spying, Military Intelligence, Counter-espionage, Military Surveillance, Scouting, Guerilla Warfare, Gathering Intelligence, Counter Intelligence, Operation Security, Personnel Security, Dissemination of Wrong Information to the Enemies, Covert Action, Specific Enemy Assassination, Combat Diving, Anti-Ship Hijacking, Anti-Aircraft Hijacking, Escape Behind The Enemies’ Lines, and the other Special Forces operation or espionage mission.
Modern elite enforcement officers are often heavily armed with a vast array of weapons which are specific to their mission. However, at times, they may need to engage their attackers unarmed. The use of Sang Moo Do® combat martial art comes in very handy as a last resort, especially when the available weapon failed to operate and there is an imminent need to subdue the ongoing attacking opponents / terrorists without attracting the attention of other opponents. Thus, Sang Moo Do ® combat martial art offers itself as a highly recommended self-defence to compliment the success of many special missions.
Based on the historical record and past survey, most of the Espionage or Special Forces Veterans and Commanders felt and concluded that the other martial arts concentrated too much on sports and competition, except the combat martial art Sang Moo Do, and more importantly, they didn’t feel that techniques worked well for the Special Forces soldiers and Spies which faced the extreme personal combat situation with two distinct options: either he dies or I do.
As Colonel (Rtd) Steward Applegetan , Special Forces Training specialist has made the clear in his clear statement as anyone who has worked with the authentic Special Forces knows, these elite soldiers are above all else, expert learners. They know what specific skills their mission requires them to master. This self- knowledge is where the foremost problem with teaching martial arts to Special Forces begins.
In war, you cannot afford the luxury of squeamishness like that famous martial art for sport and competition in the global arena. Either you kill or capture or you will be captured or killed. We've got to be tough to win, and we've got to be ruthless--tougher and more ruthless than our enemies'."
The majority of people trying to instruct elite troops / spies in martial arts usually don't have an appreciation for their true needs, except Sang Moo Do®. What normally happens is that someone is given the chance to teach the members of an elite unit, but fails to adapt the training to their particular mission, mainly because he doesn't know and understand what their mission is. Instead he draws the soldiers / spies into his world of martial arts, utilizing some section of his skills which he thinks might work for them.
Although a martial arts instructor may be an excellent teacher, his training will entirely miss the point unless it specifically addresses the elite unit or espionage mission. What then are the operational needs of the Special Forces soldiers and Spies?
The combat martial art Sang Moo Do® training for elite soldiers and spies are in the mission- specific, which generally means disabling, causing the injury or death of the enemies during the escape and evasion situation, or whose other weapons have failed, will have no need of restraining techniques. If he must fight, he will not be captured by the enemy, he will kill him. It is also used as a last resort, when his other weapons fail, or when he has no other weapons, or attacking the terrorists or enemies silently without awakening others.
These are taught in a progression as a student gains sashes (items to signify skill level attained), with many of the more difficult ones only taught after a black belt is achieved. Due to the extensive nature of the curriculum, typically attaining a black belt may take between 8 - 15 years. More dedicated students may possibly achieve it in less.
The Belts
In Sang Moo Do®, all the practitioners are given the belts to signify their progression through the martial art. Before first dan (first black belt), the belt order goes from white to brown:
• White Belt: Coo Kub (ninth grade) • Orange Belt: Pal Kub (eighth grade) • Yellow Belt: Chil Kub (seventh grade) • Green Belt: Yuk Kub (sixth grade) • Purple Belt: Oh Kub (fifth grade) • Blue Belt: Sa Kub (fourth grade) • Pink Belt: Sum Kub (third grade) • Red Belt: E Kub (second grade) • Brown Belt: Il Kub (first grade)
After receiving a black belt, a practitioner earns the title Jo Kyo Nim (or alternatively, Yu Dan Ja), and can now be an instructor. In addition, every degree of black belt has its own title, and shows a respective knowledge level. Note that there can only ever be one ninth degree and one tenth degree at any one time.
• Cho Dan: first degree black belt. Title: Jo Kyo Nim (Assistant instructor) • E Dan: second degree black belt. Title: Kyo Sa Nim (Instructor) • Sam Dan: third degree black belt. Title: Kwan Jang Nim (Master) • Yuk Dan: sixth degree black belt. Title: Kwan Jang Nim, or Dosa (Master) • Chil Dan: seventh degree black belt. Title: Kuk Sa Nim or Chong Kwan Jang Nim (Grandmaster) • Pal Dan: eighth degree black belt. Title: Kuk Sa Nim or Chong Kwan Jang Nim (Grandmaster) • Gu Dan: ninth degree black belt. Title: Kuk Sun (Head Grandmaster) • Ship Dan: tenth degree black belt. Title: Do Joo Nim (Supreme Grandmaster, Owner of the Way)
The Physical Techniques
During the course of study up until black belt, a practitioner will learn a long form, eight basic techniques, around 380 "one step sparring" and disarming weapons techniques and about the same number of self-defense techniques, and some short forms, every sash level. In addition, three main weapons will be taught: The Ssang Jyel Bong (nunchaku), Jang Bong (long staff), and the Gum Mu (sword). Defense against other weapons, such as the knife, are also taught, but training with those weapons does not occur until black belt. Sang Moo Do students will also have extensive study in grappling, joint manipulation and submission fighting, and new curriculum rollouts allow studying kumdo and weapon fighting earlier in the program. But the syllabus for Special Forces and Spies that will include the compulsory combat mission and training of using 93 special weapons (pistols, rifles, long sword, knife, nunchaku, batons, etc) as opposed to firing or throwing an explosive or projectile and 3230 anti-weapons (pistols, rifles, long sword, knife, nunchaku, batons, etc) spy or elite force techniques.
The Sang Moo Do Meng Sae
Sang Moo Do attempts to teach moral principles in additional to physical techniques, out of a belief that those who receive martial arts training must also be taught to use their skills responsibly. The foundation of Sang Moo Do's code of behavior is the Meng Sae, which is composed of five rules and nine philosophical principles.
