Faryl Amadeus
[edit]Faryl Amadeus is an American film director, screenwriter, and actor. She is a Spielberg fellow, Scholastic Golden Key award-winner, and Grand Prize Winner of Aspen Films’ Independent By Nature contest[1].
She is the creator, writer, director, and star of the cult TV show, FANCY NANCY’S FUNNY HOUR, and was featured as one of Paper Magazine's Most Beautiful People.
Faryl’s debut, award-winning film, MARY MEET GRACE, just finished its festival run. Her upcoming films ANY SIGN AT ALL and WHEN IT'S HARD are about to begin their festival seasons. Faryl is in post production on her queer Edward Hopper-esque short, ALL IT TOOK, and is in pre production on her first and second feature films, PALE and SHOW PEOPLE.
Early life and education
[edit]While attending Polly Prep Summer Camp, Faryl was scouted by casting director, Billy Hopkins, for the role of Michael Douglas' daughter in the 1987 film Fatal Attraction. She danced with the Joffery Ballet and the Eliot Feld Dance Company. Faryl. Attended LaGuardia High School as a visual arts major. She received a BFA from Tisch School of the Arts in the Experimental Theater Wing. While at school she originated the role of Bill Gates, in the musical NERDS.
Career
[edit]Faryl originated the role of Clea in the two person country musical FLOYD & CLEA UNDER THE WESTERN SKY at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune said Faryl, "can sing — in the raw, sexy, gutsy, fearless, un-Broadway kind of way that you almost never find in an actress who also can really act. Most impressive of all, she’s utterly authentic and yet also strikingly driven on the stage."[2]
She was later cast in Julie Taymor's Across The Universe. Faryl created the TV show Fancy Nancy's Funny Hour, which was a famously cult NYC public access program. She wrote, produced, edited, and starred in the series. Her character, Fancy Nancy, was later featured as one of Paper Magazine's Most Beautiful People.
Faryl plays the role of Beth McKenzie in the Fountains Of Wayne video, SOMEONE TO LOVE, directed by Adam Neustater, opposite Dimitri Martin.
Faryl wrote and directed her debut short film, MARY MEET GRACE, which premiered at the Oscar Qualifying Hollyshorts in 2021. Winner for outstanding cinematography at Salute Your Shorts Film Festival. Best Short Film at the Yucca Valley Film Festival. The Audience Award at the Topaz Film Festival. Best Thriller at the Hallucinea Film Festival.
Faryl's follow up film ANY SIGN AT ALL, starring Jeanine Mason and Katy Sullivan, will make its premiere at the Oscar Qualifying Florida Film Festival. Her third short film, WHEN IT'S HARD stars Caroline Fogarty[3], Brendan Griffin[4] and Clint Jordan. Her fourth short film ALL IT TOOK, reunites her with Floyd and Clea co-star and creator, David Cale, who stars alongside Tommy Heleringer[5] and Mike Freeman.
She co-wrote, produced, and stars in the Joe Maggio film BLISS, which premiered at Slamdance in 2024. Film Threatsaid "Amadeus is a wonder in her dual role as the two sisters."[6]
Faryl is currently developing two features and a miniseries.
