Welcome to Willscrlt's Mediation Cabal area.
I am a great listener, and a decent mediator. Before I invest a lot of my limited time into helping people, I want to be sure that both parties are serious about working out some kind of an agreement. If one party is hoping to have someone back them in a fight, then I’m not interested in picking sides. Otherwise, I’m very hopeful we can reach an informal, but satisfactory agreement for everyone involved.
Please be aware that like nearly everyone, it is much more difficult for me to remain truly neutral in areas where I have a lot of knowledge and strong opinions. I will likely decline to become involved in such areas unless you provide me with a compelling reason to do so and I think I can remain fair and neutral. My career involves computer networking at an advanced level, so I might have some strong opinions there and will probably decline. The exception would be if both parties are familiar with my edit and talk histories and feel that I would be the perfect choice to help simply because of my experience in these areas. Since I have done so much editing on mixed drink articles, I probably will decline involvement in cases related to that topic for the same reason.
I tend to write long, carefully thought out responses. Brevity usually is not one of my strong points in situations like this. People who agree to mediation with me should be willing to—at least—read long discussions, and ideally will communicate in kind. I do not get intimidated by long, highly technical writing. On the other hand, I do not become offended by shorter, more passionate writing. I realize everyone communicates differently, and if you put up with however I write without judgment, I will do the same for you. In reality, it is the actions, the policies and guidelines, and the intentions that are more important than the way any person presents information. Further, this is informal mediation and discussion. Let's remember to keep things light and friendly, not procedural and argumentative.
