Hello, my name is Willem, I live in England but my parents gave me what I believe is a French name because they find that normal English surnames are extremely dull and boring. I have a love of politics and law and am very interested in South Africa, I'm learning Afrikaans and about Afrikaner culture, I don't like the negative connotations associated with such people because I've had a very close friend who's of this ethnicity and he was such a nice person and I've met several lovely people who're Afrikaans- speaking white South Africans, there's 300,000 Afrikaans speakers in Britain now, it's ashame to see a 350 year- old culture get dispersed around the world, in a few years it will literally be a dead culture.
My favorite films are generally associated with right- wing politics (not because I am but because I think right- wingers aren't as evil and many would think).
His Big White Self (2006)- Post- Apartheid documentary about the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging, despite all of the murders commited I don't think you could find a much more personable group of people.
The Leader, His Driver and the Driver's Wife (1991)- The prequel to His Big White Self, made by Nick Broomfield, about the AWB and the fear which filled the Afrikaners, who made up only 3 million people of the nearly 50 million people in South Africa. The fact that there was such a brutal end to Apartheid can be forgiven if you look at the facts, they were vastly outnumbered, they were worried revenge would be swift and vicious for the 46 years of oppression and worried themselves about their land being stolen and their daughters being raped and it's just interesting to see how normal people behave when they're threatened with losing power.
Ku Klux Klan:A Secret History (1998)- About this strange organisation, which is yet another example of the terror people will inflict on others in order to keep themselves in a position of supremacy.
