Hi, My name is Mike. My first steps in Wikipedia were frustrated and frustrating, but things are getting better. I live with my world focussed through the lens of this PC, which means I sometimes lack perspective, but I am passionate and keen to help others, particularly those who find themselves in similar positions to those I have found myself in, as I feel one can learn from more than just one's own mistakes.^[1]

I work^[2] at a university where I am continually finding that the work of the academic is undermined and undervalued, so I thought I would involve myself in another knowledge-based community, Wikipedia, so that being undermined can become an artform in itself, rather than just a day-job.

However, in the main, I have been surprised how well Wikipedians work together and with one or two notable exceptions, I am finding that people in this environment are interested in the sharing of personal knowledge, with intellectual rigour, for the education of others.
