Polaris Super Beard Brothers Game Grumps The Dex Normal Boots Hidden Block |
That One Video Gamer (often abbreviated as "TOVG") is a YouTube channel and online gaming website that's home to a variety of series produced by Jirard "Dragonrider" Khalil. It is well known for hosting the popular gaming review series The Completionist. The channel first opened on YouTube in September 2011, but officially re-opened on January 5, 2012. That One Video Gamer was founded by Jirard Khalil and Greg Wilmot, who are a duo team that review and complete an entire game within a given time. The show has expanded on many more TOVG series, including Defend It! and Top 10 videos. That One Video Gamer is also affiliated with NormalBoots.com, an online website dedicated to video games, entertainment and reviews.
That One Video Gamer officially launched it's own main website on April 29, 2014. The gaming site features the main show, The Completionist, as well as many other aspiring YouTube channels. TOVG is also home to many partnered channels including "TheNationalDex", "SuperScopeShow" and "Super Beard Brothers". The Completionist has accumulated a total of three seasons, with over 100 episodes of The Completionist. The fourth season has been ongoing as of August 29, 2014.
Cast
[edit]Main
[edit]- Jirard "Dragonrider" Khalil (Season 1 - present) is the main character of That One Video Gamer and is the "Completionist" of the show. Khalil is typically well known as Beardman, due to his tremendous growing beard. He runs and produces every show on the That One Video Gamer YouTube Channel. His motivation is to 100% complete the game to it's full extent and finally review it. Jirard gives his completion rating on a scale from Complete It (scored as the greatest) to Burn It (scored as the worst). Across the many games Jirard had reviewed, he's been considered a hardcore gamer. Considering he's put countless hours into games that take up unbelieveable time. As "The Completionist", he vows to find all that is good and bad in each game he reviews. Near the end of the first season, Khalil competed in the "King of the Web" online competition in September 2012, eventually winning that month and being dubbed as "King of the Web". Jirard also stars in a online Let's Play Channel called "Super Beard Brother", alongside co-star Alex Faciane from TOVG and The Dex.
- Greg Wilmot (Season 1 - 4) was a main character, and was known as the Medicore-ist, due to his lack of game completions. His episodes on That One Video Gamer were dubbed as "The Mediocre-ist" and are found in the first season of the show. He also does a few Top 10's in absence of Jirard. Greg was the source of the inside joke "BEARS", originating from the Banjo-Kazooie review. Wilmot was also known for his "BUT BEARDMAN" gag, by providing the voice of many fans who would typically react to the start of Jirard's reviews. On February 24, 2015, it was announced that Greg would be leaving the show during the fourth season of The Completionist. For unexplained reasons, to retain privacy on the matter, Jirard has given the word that Greg will no longer be working for TOVG.[1]
Recurring
[edit]- Alex Faciane (Recurring: Season 1, Season 4 - present; Main: Season 2 - 4) was a recurring member in season one, especially featured in the Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow review. He also appeared in the season one finale, figuring out how to get Jirard out of his frozen trance. Faciane became a regular member from season two onwards. He also co-stars with PokeKellz on the TheNationalDex, a spin-off series dedicated to Pokemon trivia and battle strategy. Alex also starts in a online Let's Play channel called "Super Beard Brothers" with co-star Jirard "The Completionist".
- Carlos Padilla (Season 1 - present) is the main artist and designer for That One Video Gamer. Padilla draws Jirard in his "Completionist" stance, designed in a rendering that reflects the game Jirard intends to review. Padilla is not seen in the actual review episodes. However, he makes a cameo in the intro of the Diddy Kong Racing review, where Greg orders him to get back to work.
- Proton Jon (Season 2 - present) is a well known YouTube Let's Player, and is a recurring member on the The Completionist. He is typically referred as Bruce Willis by Greg as a running gag, unknowing of who Proton Jon is.
- Jimmy "Sunder" (Season 2 - present) is an intern and recurring member of That One Video Gamer. He is also a regular on TheNationalDex, featured as a host of "The Extra Dex". Jimmy appears as a first year intern in the second season when Jirard reviewed Breaking Bad. He also made a guest appearance in the Majora's Mask review, eagerly portraying as the Happy Mask Salesman for the opening. Eventually, Jimmy has made more appearances on the show, notably in the season three finale (Sonic 2006). Jimmy, along with Alex and Frazier, thought of many ways to free Jirard from the cursed Sonic 2006 copy.
- Frazier (Season 3 - present) made his debut in the Sonic 2006 review episode, along with Jimmy and Alex, to figure out a way to free Jirard and Greg from the game's accursed trap. Frazier is well known to be an old friend of Jirard's from college.
- Xander Mobus (Season 4 - present), also known as the Announcer for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS, provides the voice over during the Completionist Rating at the end of each Completionist Review. He was also a featured guest in the Completionist Review of "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS".

Review Synopsis
[edit]The following format is how Jirard and Greg review a completed video game on "The Completionist" series. The review is first split into four parts; the story, the game's presentation, game play mechanics and the concluding segment of the game. Extra parts of a review would include "Completion Bonus", whenever there is a bonus for completing a game. Another, more recent category is "The Struggle", where the game's most difficult aspects are focused upon. Finally, after the review, Jiard gives his "Completionist Rating" of the game he had just reviewed over. The episode ends with Jirard signing off, or with a running gag featured from the review.
In addition to reviewing a video game, The Completionist also presents quirky, comedic skits. Primarily, it's purpose is to mock up or lighten up a portion of the game's review. These bits are presented for a game's features, such a unexpected glitches, controls, challenges or story presentation. Well known skits or jokes include "BEARS", "Shiraco: The Laser Clown", "Commence Angry Jihad Rant" and "Glitches with Old Man Snitches". These comedic bits will appear spontaneously throughout the Completionist reviews.
- Level 1 - Story
At the beginning of each review, Jirard introduces the principles of a video game. These include the setting, main characters, the conflict and the main objective of the game. Greg typically jumps into this part of the review, mirroring what the gaming audience would say about the reviewed game. Jirard would counter his argument to this response and balance the positives and negatives of the game.
- Level 2 - Presentation
Jirard then goes into detail about the game's design, soundtrack and graphic appeal. He also discusses how well the game performs on the given video game console.
- Level 3 - Gameplay
Following the game's presentation is the gaming mechanics, and now well received the core game play performs. Jirard critically observes and discusses the game's responses as he interacts with the it's rules. He also notes of how aligned it flows with the gamer's input, whether it is a strong or weak point.
- Final Level - Final Boss/Ending
Once Jirard reaches last portion of the game, and completing any required tasks before hand, he reaches the game's ultimate conclusion. This part of the review discusses the game's final trial and ending sequence. During this part of the review, before moving on, Jirard would warn the viewer about possible spoilers. If somebody wishes not to view any content of the final ending, this section can be skipped entirely.
- Completion Bonus
If there were any additional content to a game, commonly after the main story, Jirard will comment about any extra bonuses in a game. This section of the review ended up becoming a new series on TOVG, titled "The Completion Bonus", focusing on completing a video game up to 100 percent.
- The Results / Struggle
This section of the review is where Jirard will comment or add any final thoughts about the hardest sections of the game. This is where he would pinpoint the game's most challenging areas.
- Completionist Rating
To conclude his review, Jiard will give final thoughts about the game and give it a "Completionist" rating. The possibilities of a rating go as recommended: the left being the greatest, and the right being the most repulsive. Sometimes Jirard will combine a rating giving its possible preferences for different players. In this case, if he can't decide between "Complete it!" or "Finish it!", Jirard will give a Completionist Rating of "Finipete It!".
- Rating Scores:
- Complete it! - Play through the game in all of it's glory and explore everything this game has to offer. The best rating possible!
- Finish it! - Players are encouraged to finish the game up to it's main campaign mode. Otherwise, not recommended to 100% the game; player's choice.
- Play it! - Those who pick up the game are advised to at least play it, and get a feel for the game's overall potential. Not a bad game, but not the best game.
- Look at it! - Not overly encouraged to play the game at all, but at least check the game out. No playing necessary, but totally up to the player.
- BURN it! - This game should not exist. It's terrible. It deserves to be thrown in the flames! Burn it to the ground!

Season 4 (2014-present)
[edit]The fourth season was announced right after the season three finale on June 27, 2014. The fourth season premiered with a review of Shovel Knight on August 29, 2014. Season four was meant to premiere a week earlier, but was pushed a week further due to time constraints. The official, new introduction of The Completionist made its debut during the fifth episode, reviewing Skyrim. In addition to The Completionist, new episodes of three returning series include: Why We Love Games, The Completion Bonus and Defend It!. These three shows will rotate with premieres on Tuesdays. Special guests this season include Xander Mobus, the announcer for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS.
On February 24, 2015, it was announced that Greg Wilmot, co-star and co-creator of TOVG, will be leaving the show during the fourth season of The Completionist. For unexplained reasons, to retain privacy on the matter, Jirard has confirmed that Greg will no longer be working for TOVG.[1] As of Greg's departure, Jirard also stated the show will begin to dramatically change in the future episodes. The comedic skits and jokes presented in prior episode reviews will discontinue, in respect to the viewers' appreciation for the show's past reviews. These skits include "BEARS", "Glitches with Oldman Snitches", "Shiraco: The Laser Clown" and any other skit that Greg presented.[2]
