75th Anniversary of the Great Victory
[edit]75th Anniversary of the Great Victory is a series of celebratory and memorial events dedicated to the Victory of USSR in World War II (1941-1945).
9th of May is a special date for people living in post-soviet states specifically. Annual celebrations in these countries are a national tradition. People have holidays on this day even in other countries.
Despite the current epidemiological situation in the world, some countries which had managed to control the epidemic took measures to memorize the Great Victory. Due to coronavirus infection, nevertheless, some activities such as the Immortal Regiment (Bessmertniy Polk) were held online.
Preparations
[edit]President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed orders to start planning the anniversary process in 2018. 2020 was called «the year of memory and fame». It was announced in January, 2020 that all people who had suffered from the war would receive financial support. The Parades were to take place in 28 cities of Russia; memorial activities were planned to be held in 482 localities including 7 that are outside of Russia. 13th of June, 2019 a medal «75 years since the Great Victory in World War II 1941-1945» was established. That year, large-scaled international projects covering the problem of falsifying history and telling about USSR’s Victory were executed.
The Parade
[edit]This year’s Parade was noticed to be longer than any previous Parade, and mainly because of the great amount of soldiers, military equipment enhanced with newest technologies and a spectacular aircraft show which took place despite cloudy weather.
It was discussed in mass media that the Parade has to either be on May 9 but without viewers or delayed until autumn. The President soon announced that it will happen in summer, on 24th of June of that year. Apart from Russian soldiers, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan confirmed to have taken part in the Parade.
