Adult Literacy League, Inc., based in Orlando, Florida, is a non-profit organization that provides literacy education, training and information in Central Florida. Adult Literacy League (ALL) serves only those ages 18 and older in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. It offers weekly educational classes in math, citizenship and other subjects, and provides books to low-income families. ALL has also been awarded contracts to provide literacy services to the constituents of various organizations, such as the Walt Disney World Co. and Orange County Corrections Department. However, most of its resources are dedicated to its one-to-one tutoring program.

History

Founded in 1968, the Adult Literacy League (ALL) began as the dream of three women who wanted to help immigrants in Orange County improve their reading skills.

Affiliation and Accreditation

ALL is a member of Heart of Florida United Way.^[1]

ALL is accredited by ProLiteracy Accreditation, the only national accreditation service in the adult education and literacy field.^[2]

Volunteers

Volunteers commit to work at least one year with students to ensure consistency in their education. The average profile of an individual who volunteers is a Caucasian woman who has more free time than most. Volunteers live in all three counties that ALL serves, but there are a significant number of volunteers living in Seminole County. Potential volunteers are introduced to ALL primarily through personal connections but also through speaking engagements, special events and limited public relation efforts.

Donors and Sponsors

ALL has two main types of donors: charitable foundations and individuals donors. Local and regional foundations that offer funding to the organization generally share a similar mission with ALL. Individual donors, generally between the ages of 40 and 65, are motivated by ALL’s mission on some personal level.

ALL is one of many nonprofit agencies supported by the Orlando Sentinel Family Fund Holiday Campaign.^[3]
