Mahawilachchiya ...

Mahawilachchiya had been an ancient civilization before 6th century BC according to some clay artifacts found in a playground in Bogas Handiya area in Mahawilachchiya. There is an ancient reservoir said to be built by the King Wasabha of Anuradhapura kingdom. By 1960s there was no civilization in Mahawilachchiya and the then government started a farming settlement in Mahawilachchiya with the hope of using the water resource in the reservoir (Mahawilachchiya Wewa) for better use.
